Re: need '73-'74 grille pics

The grille in my 73 had the chrome in the same places that the pic of the NOS grille shows . It just doesnt show up that well in pics . The chrome grille trim was a Cheyenne Super grille only I am pretty sure . The grille posted above was on Ebay and I , like a dumba-- passed it up . I intended to bid but forgot . It only brought $100 and a board member bought it . Someone on this board owns that grille now , maybe I can search and find out who owns that grille now . It would be great to have a correct repro of that one .

Re: need '73-'74 grille pics

It was an odd auction . It was in Canada , not much feedback , etc . I think mhicks is the one that bought it but it has been a while since I seen pics of it posted here . I would pm him and ask about the NOS grille . I may be wrong on who purchased it but I seem to remember he was the one . I think if the auction had been in the US and not so odd , it would have been a $300 grille at minimum .

Yeah I should. I am getting too old or somthing. Heck I miss the old days when everyone worked in the auto business., I grew up with family UMW and UAW and the NMU. It's all gone now.

Re: need '73-'74 grille pics

I take back everything I sad about all argent. Jeff's grille looks awesome. Jon, if you can do that, you definitely have a winner. Maybe you could offer the '73-74 grille mount pieces as a retrofit kit as well.

Jeff, where did you find a grille in such good condition? Is it NOS or has it been restored?

Re: need '73-'74 grille pics

As has been said I have had 4 of these grills and every single one of them was chrome everywhere underneath. I have one in perfect shape that is all argent, my blazer (Cheyenne) was also all argent. My 73 cab and chassis truck was as the grille above being the outside surround was chrome and the vertical and horizontal bars were chrome.

I also have a grill that appears to be factory that is black all the way around. I have taken some steel wool to it to try to find the argent layer because I assumed it was painted at some point and it goes right to the chrome. This leads me to believe that there were some factory black grills, this was off a srw crew cab truck with NO options

could be military or something else. I think they were injected in black and then all the finish work done. I have an NOS '77 grille and it's ALL black

Re: need '73-'74 grille pics

I have seen a LOT of 73/74 grills...never a original black one. I am only aware of two, the all argent one, and the Cheyenne one with the chrome accents on the leading edge of the bars, bowtie and surround.

Re: need '73-'74 grille pics

Just to muddy up the water here , look at the pic of a 73 Cheyenne that is posted in the Barret Jackson thread link on this message board . It has muy chrome . More chrome than I have seen on a grille yet . I tried to post a pic but the file size is too large .

Re: need '73-'74 grille pics

There was a link in there to a 73from Glen Elder, KS (home of The Yard!). Frank is right about the chrome; I wonder if someone just got excited with some steel wool or the like.
