Looking for some high quality pictures of a '73-'74 grille (specifically the bowtie emblem) in VERY GOOD shape.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Jon |

Re: need '73-'74 grille pics
Here's a start:
http://brochures.slosh.com/index.shtml?1973 And, i'm with you; i think the 73-75ish styling rocks, particularly on the gmc side. Today's styling stinks; i mean how can these "designers" sleep at night? |

Re: need '73-'74 grille pics
Does this mean that you will be offering the 73-74 grill in your product line?

Re: need '73-'74 grille pics
Jon, I am pretty sure they were all argent. If you are going to repop them, I don't think the emblem is being reproduced, either. It is a thin foil, that was really prone to fading.

I think the emblem is actually anodized magnesium...I could use a better sample on that as well. There are also three different engine plates (three plates...multiple colors) that I know of: 292, 350 and 454 also. |

Re: need '73-'74 grille pics
All of the ones I have seen are argent. There was an option for chrome horizontal bars and seperate emblem starting in '75, but I have never seen them on a 73-74 grille. The picture Frank posted of his '73 Cheyenne Super would have been top of the line in '73, and there is no chrome. I don't see how they would have chromed them, it would have been pretty complex, given the number of holes in the grille. A replacement emblem would be great as well; most of the ones I have seen have usually been faded.
Can you repop a grille with the emblem in the middle? I was always curious about that. Last edited by Jonboy; 10-02-2009 at 10:34 AM. |

Re: need '73-'74 grille pics
I can confirm that you are correct about there being a chrome and plain argent grill. I can't be sure about the vertical bars being chrome.
All I have seen in person have been faded to the point that would be hard to determine. If you look close at the last pic, it appears that they are chrome too.

Re: need '73-'74 grille pics
Since they are always faded, I would imagine an argent one would cover 90% of the needs. Especially if the emblem area and emblem are correct.

Re: need '73-'74 grille pics
Can you re-pop the grill with the bowtie? I know in the past all aftermarket grill didn't include the bowtie or the raised outline for it.
Here's what is adding to the confusion. The OEM grill like Frank posted has the argent sprayed over the chrome. The outer edge is chrome but the rest is not. After the argent fades it exposes the chrome causing you to feel it had more chrome to start with.

I understand that the outer part of the emblem bed and the outer rim of the grille are chrome (whole grille is chromed, masked, and the argent painted). The way that the bars were originally done is what I'm not sure on. the picture above shows a lot of chrome detail work that isn't evident on the samples I have. Yes; you can repop a grille with the Bowtie IF the part is discontinued by GM AND they accept your application for license on the product (which of course means you pay for every piece sold). |

Re: need '73-'74 grille pics
I have an NOS 73/74 grill in my 73truck. I will get some pictures this evening and post them here. I am almost positive the horiz and vert bars are chrome, as well as the enitire outer enge of the grill itself. The bowtie is indeed a foil or thin alum sticker.
