Re: 22" factory GM transport wheels

I figure I'd document my 22's here. on my 67 GMC I was running 1.25" spacers on the rear and .5" up front with drum brakes. I went to the longer dorman studs all the way round. Since 2 studs sheared on my rear spacers I'm ditching them and reversing the wheels. Originally I was going to just change the offset but the hoop has a slight taper and the center gets loose when you slide it back. The steps on the lip also look terrible. So I reversed them with a 4.375" backspace. You could probably get down to 3", maybe a little less backspace if wanted. I'm going to turn the axle nubs down in my lathe to fit the center bore of the wheels and rock them with no spacers and 67 caps. For those wondering, I made a jig with a 2002 Truck front hub to spin the wheel and measure runout. Make sure you measure runout before you seperate the pieces and label the hoop. Oh, and I'm repainting them a light brown.

Just fine. Put 2700 miles on them on the HotRod PowerTour before my trans went out. Smooth all the way to 95mph so far.

Re: 22" factory GM transport wheels

Ahh yeah, that looks sweet!! Thinking of doing that to a set I have, was it hard to do? Any chance you have more photos of the procedure? Thanks
