my dad and i have built probably 18 trailers over the years. We take pull the 2 sides together and use a 2-1/2 in square tube in the center welded to the rear cab mount with a two inch coupler on the front it helps make it really strong so nothing flexes. we have also have taken the front spindles and had a tube welded between them and used that has a rear axle

I didn't build it, but here is mine (1/2-ton with leaf springs). It tows nicely but I wish it was a 3/4-ton. I think the tongue would be nicer if it had been brought together just ahead of the cab mounts. It has been beat to h*ll by previous owners (I bought it at the metal scrap yard).

if you have a short bed truck, a matching long bed trailer would look sweet at cars shows.

i want to do that with my 87 ram 50 (mitsubishi). my grandfather had an 87 long bed before the short bed that i now have. i have my 72 burb for all the serious towing needs, but i want to coat the truck (and possible trailer) up with poly bed liner and used it for hauling snowmobiles in the winter.

here's mine, made from an original paint 70 longbed. i used an HO52 axle without the 3rd member and welded a flat plate over the hole to keep out dirt and water, sawed off the axle shafts, packed the bearings with boat grease, took the hub/drum assemblies to work and chucked them up on the brake lathe and cut the drums off to lighten it up, also removed all the brake components including the backing plates. it has 3/4 ton leaf springs and i've hauled many loads that were close to 2 tons with no problems at all. it also has an extra long tounge so backing is a breeze and i added a diamond plate toolbox and a lumber rack after this pic was taken
