Re: Look what I found

I'm not sure on the carb, but I'm sure if you just went to NAPA and ask for a rebuild kit for a single Rochester for a 235 they could get you one. I got a rebuild kit for my 216 card at NAPA before.

The TF V8 mounts bolt to the front of the block and the front x-member and look like these:

I can't wait to get it running, but who knows when that will be. I will post the progress when I do it.

Re: Look what I found

I could not find stock mounts in 1985 when I put in my SB so I made them out of 1/2" plate. Bolt hole to crossmember use the stock holes. I set the front to back location based on the stock front drive line length and keeping dist. to fire wall clearance. Fan to radiator clearance is not an issue.

Nice info.

Called NAPA today and they didn't have a kit in stock. He told me to bring the carb in to make sure I get the right kit. Even though there is only one listing for a 235 with a Rochester. He said he has a book that will tell him the info he needs with the numbers off of the carb. I found one number, but it looks like a PN for just the body. Anyway I took it off today. I realized that these trucks aren't meant to be worked on. the fenders are rounded, the tools won't stay put.

This is one of the numbers I found.

I know it's an oil bath breather, but have never messed with them. What's the best thing to do with it? I don't know if I should eliminate it and install a regular air filter or make this work.

While I have yall's attention one other question. This truck still has the generator, but someone had installed a 12 volt battery. It spins over fast, but is there any other damage I might do? I figure it will only get charged with 6 volts. I know a little about electricity, but not enough. In time if I keep it it will get a new harness and convert over to 12 volt. Just want to get it running and driving for right now.

Re: Look what I found

the starter can run on 24 volts if you want. it just won't run very long due to heat. so if it dosent start with in 5 to 10 seconds let her rest a bit. the excess heat will sweat out the sodder on the armiture. other than that i still run a 6 volt light in my cab. man is it bright!! havent burned it out since i switched to 12 volts in 1984.... still works...

It probably wouldn't be hard for someone with a clue, unlike myself.

I'll go check out your link, Thanks. I'm glad you subscribed.

Part number for carb didn't exist, so I ordered a kit it will be in tommorrow. Here's the break down. I guess it's the accelerator pump that looks all dried up.

Other than being dirty on the outside the inside was cleaner than I had expected. I can't believe how simple the carb is. I've work on lawnmower carbs more complicated than this one.

Re: Look what I found

Those carbs (and 2gc's too) were notorious for the accel. pump drying out, I always carried a spare. If you need them I have a carb off the 58 235 and a 12v generator I have been trying to unload (shipping might be expensive its heavy). Oil bath will work ok if you want the stock look, most were replaced for convenience after they got accidently spilled on the exhaust manifold. Do you have the oil filter option? I have one of those laying around too. My grandfather used TP in his! Alot of them are missing because the VW guys grabbed them for external coolers.

Thanks for the headsup on the parts. I'll hold off for right now. How much oil needs to be in the oil bath? And as far as the oil filter, I couldn't tell you. I'll have to go look.

You asked before about the generator and something about 12 volts earlier. 1955 is the first year for 12 volt. Your truck should be totally 12 volt. I'm sure you figured it out by now, but your carb is likely a Rochester B. Your engine is likely a 235 with the full oil pressure (not babbit). That is, unless the engine has been changed (usually changed for a newer model).

I've followed your '65 too. Nice work, by the way. I'm on this side trying to learn as much as I can. I'm trading my '53 bel air for a '55 pickup next week. I'll probably be selling my '63 to make the '55 nice and low. Keep up the good work.

It would be alot of fun if I had deep pockets. The 55 has been sitting for 2 years now.

Back when I first got the 55 I redid the complete brake system. This is some parts that are missing. I can't remember who emailed me this pic of what he had, but I didn't buy it at the time. I could make the flat bar portion if needed. I was wondering if someone had this complete set up to sale.

I hear that! I was able to get my 52 running (rebuilt the carb, replace the water pump, run new wires for the generator and front lights, etc.) but it will have to wait until I can save up (and recover) after my 66 build...

I've heard that A 12v in a true 6v system will eat it up... A 8v battery I heard is the trick.. Again this is what I have "heard."

Looking forward to seeing it at PO BOYS..Thanks for your help!

OK, I admit I don't know anything about an oil filter option. I went and looked for and oil filter and guess what I couldn't find it. Teach me please. I see a blow by tube on the right side. Here is some shots of both sides of the engine.

I missed your post. It was 2 minutes prior to my last post. That's good news about the 12v. Thanks for the comments and info. Good luck on the 55. I wish I had more time to keep up with everything that is going on on the board, but there's not enough minutes in the day.

Your welcome.

Got the carb done today, I hope.

Here is the kit.

Got to bend my first line today and I didn't mess it up yet. I still have the flare to do at the carb. It is a 45 degree flare right?

Re: Look what I found

Too funny I was going to say since your tinkering with the 55 you'll need to start a thread, and bam you already did. It's also funny that your doing what I was trting to do on my 64 bend a new fuel line. Mine came up about 2" short. I'll have to give it another try. I've got a straight 292 in mine. Thinking about just keeping it. Runs good. Love the looks of the 55. I need another truck.

Re: Look what I found

Here is what the filter option looks like. There are two fittings one in the bottom that returns to a port in the pan rail that drains into the pan. The other is high on the side and goes to a port towards the back and farther up on the block that is a pressure feed. There are also aftermarket types that allow use of a spin on filter.

Now this is the thread that needs a new name. It's just lame. And no new pictures. What is going on. Is the electron broke or just getting refitted with a more powerful lens.
