Re: 64 C-10 Newbie

All right, so far I have pulled the oil pan and installed rear main seal and pan gasket. Hell I was embarrassed to go to anyone's house because this old bucket would mark its place.

While I had it in the air I checked the brakes. Yep shoes on wrong. Plus Drums wore out and front shoes cracked so I did a 4 wheel brake job. And remember folks, The big boy(long shoe lining) rides in the back.

Picked up a Craigslist score on some wheels and tires.

AHHH much better. Of course the front end was wore out (noticed that while I was doing the brakes. But hey, aint nobody got time for that. I got new wheels, I need to drive this rig.
that takes us to early April.

Re: 64 C-10 Newbie

I decided my first real trip for the Bucket was going to be Goodguys Nashville. No way am I going to drive this jewel on the X-way with the front end as loose and it was. So I scoured the forums, Got all my part #'s and went shopping on Amazon. (MOOG PARTS ONLY) tore it apart last week of April

Got her back on the ground May 2nd and promptly took it to Riggs alignment so my life long friend Kevin could do his magic. While there he tightened up the manual gear box.

Re: 64 C-10 Newbie

Sambrutay - awesome truck! Keep the updates coming and, while that sbc is sweet looking, I vote for the nostalgia and coolness of the I6. Not to hijack the forum but can anyone tell me what the writing on the firewall means or where it came from? Mine has similar writing but different numbers.

Re: 64 C-10 Newbie

So here it is Goodguys coming up and I figure hell might as well rebuild the old 1bbl carb (leaking POS). I get a kit and put it together, still leaks. pull it back down a couple times. Finally I use some anerobic sealer on the top plate gasket. Success. of course I only had the carb on and off about 5 times. Meanwhile I see 2 holes that have been drilled in the bed (each comer rear of the bed by the tailgate) I think to myself I will need some shade this summer so I make a holder for my umbrella the wife bought me for my BGE grill table.

Oh yeah! this gonna be good. Well we needed the umbrella, but not sun. GG Nashville was a rainy event.

Father-inlaw and I had a great time in Nashville, The truck performed great. Spun the ol 230 ci 3000 rpm all the there and back. The only hic-up in the trip was on the return ride home. We pull off at the Cave City exit and the throttle pedal goes unresponsive, but my engine starts revving up. Dummy that did the carb forgot to tighten the accelerator linkage nut. DUH that's me. Had to pull a shade tree fix. Cross thread a wing nut and get my but home.

Couple weeks later another uneventful trip to Goodguys Indy with my ol buddy Ed(father in-law)

Here's the next trip. Thought about GG Columbus but I think I will do the South Eastern Chevy GMC truck nationals.

And here is a Parting shot of the Bucket, The Father in-laws 69 Camaro, and The nieces boyfriends later model Camaro on Independence day.

Re: 64 C-10 Newbie

Man, thanks for all those updates. The truck looks great! Are those Wheel Vintiques steelies? What are the widths? What size tires are you running front and back?

I see you redid the brakes and front end while keeping the drums and manual steering. Any regrets? My truck needs the same work and I'm trying to decide on going front disc and pwr steering or just rebuilding what it has. The upgrades are expensive. Just wondering if the are necessary.

Re: 64 C-10 Newbie

Wheels are original GM that were blasted and powder coated. Front are 15x5.5 rear are 15x8. Yes I did retain 6 lug drum brakes and manual brakes and steering. It's also a 3 on the tree so it's a lot going to drive it. Do I wish I would have converted it? Sometimes but I really dig the simplicity of this truck that has survived 50+ years with minimal modification. Less is more for me. I am a firm believer of keep it simple. If this was a daily driver I would absolutely upgrade it. My next project is either 3.08 gears or factory 3 speed overdrive as I would like to drive this rag across country if I so desired.

Re: 64 C-10 Newbie

Mine's a 3 on the tree too. Won't be daily driving mine either, more of a weekend thing. What size Hankooks are you running on those wheels? I really like the look.

Thanks again.

It was good talking to you at Indy this year. That is a cool truck you have Bruce. Looks like Ed has a sweet 69 Camaro too.

Doug, It was nice talking with also. Thanks for the compliment, and yes Ed has a very nice Camaro. A sweet little California car with 1 repaint in the early 90's.

Re: 64 C-10 Newbie

Hey Bruce, were the (black) wheels and tires the same sizes as the latter white wheel setup?

Re: 64 C-10 Newbie

It’s been a while since I updated this so here it goes. Drove to White House Tenn to the Southeastern Truck Nationals. Great trip, Great people, and hot as hell!
Here is my riding crew, Ed, and my son Jacob.

My Friend Mark scored this ride at the Southeastern Truck Nationals #Ganggreen

A couple weekends later we were back on I-65 to E-town for the Cruisin' the Heartland show.

A few weeks later My daughter Caitlin took some senior pictures with the old junk pile. You know I was happy.

Picked up a chick at the Streetrod Nationals In Louisville Ky

Got tired of my tail gate noise so grabbed these up from user 1966chevy.

While I was at it I got tired of seeing my grill twisted. So took it apart and fixed that minor problem.

Fixed my dimmer switch.

Re: 64 C-10 Newbie

After getting my tail gate tightened up and dimmer switch fixed it was time for more road.

The took a trip back down I-65 to Goodguys Bowling Green. (that’s Ed with our friend Hank)

Then Louisville Street rod show at Iroquois park with my roadies Hank (Black Nova)

and Mark in Ganggreen. It sure has changed a lot since he picked it up at the Southeastern Truck Nationals show.

End of the year

And one last picture of the scrap pile at work.

Had a great summer. This ol beater ran and drove like a champ. But it could use some over drive!

Things to come this winter. A little 5 speed action.

Drove to Ed's and got my GMC Sprint out for the first time this year. I was having to much fun in the C10......
