Re: Build Date

Would it make sense to have a single unified thread for S/N - dates. ???

I'm trying to find builds close to my 71 to verify build month: 1Z622515

If we could keep it on track I think that would be a great idea personally. If those with known build dates could post the build sequence of there vin and the plant. The only problem I see is after several pages it will be a pita to search thru.

I've seen this done on a guitar forum.

All new S/N-date entries would be added to each years list.

Re: Build Date

This is the info I have on my build date. My truck is a GMC, so my info might not help much. VIN xxxxx-Z120204
From build sheet: job 01069, scheduled no. date 03-29-71
Blue door tag: mfd 4/71
If I understand correctly, my truck's job number was created on 03-29-71 and the truck was built and completed in very early April 1971. Looks to me like the 20204th GMC truck built at Fremont for 1971 model year.

Re: Build Date

Ugh............... horizontal format is goofed once I post this. Will need to breakout GMC and Chevy into separate threads or format them above/below each other.

1967 GMC Chevy

1968 GMC Chevy

1969 GMC Chevy

1970 GMC Chevy

1971 GMC Chevy

Z120204 4/71 1Z622515 12/70 (best estimate)

1972 GMC Chevy

Re: Build Date

My parents bought this '67 C20 in Feb '69 from the original owner. I have the bank finance papers. I also have the original owner's California "Registration Card", as they called it then. It states that the truck was sold in 1966 and first registered on Jan 6, 1967.
I have been trying to find answers for these questions with no luck:
Does anyone know when the first '67s rolled off the Fremont assembly line? How many were produced per day? Did the serial number/production number sequence start at 000001 or 100001?
Thanks again.

Re: Build Date

67’s went on sale in the last quarter of ‘66 if I’m not mistaken. I know I’ve read a few threads on here where people had 67’s built in late ‘66. This I common across the whole auto industry. Normally new model years are released in the second half of the current year.

Re: Build Date

Carl, to your request to break Chevy/GMC out separately, here you go - people can just quote this post and it will grow and filter to the bottom (and pls insert new entries in order for the year, earliest-to-latest) - I believe some sort of text entry, a couple characters outside the quoted region will have to be entered as well to meet the minimum post requirement.

Please include last 8 digits of VIN (model year + plant + serial) along with build date (from blue door sticker or build sheet, no guesses! )
Feel free to enter your last 8 = TBD, that way as the data fills in around it, folks can make an educated guess as to the correct month - but please only enter verified dates.

Re: Build Date

What are the odds? I was just on Rockauto looking at brake hoses for my '71 and they have notes for "To 3/71" and another for "From 4/71", so I had to go find when mine was made.

Carl, I have a 71 C10 built in Fremont plant. VIN is Z603538 and the blue sticker says built 08/70 if that helps you. I also found stamping on the passenger floor pan behind the inner fender that read 8121970 making wonder if that meant the floor was built on that date or if it was just a part number or hidden build date.

Maybe we should make this current, up to date, post a separate thread with instructions at in the first post of the thread on how the list works? I have a feeling that since this came in later on in the current thread that it will be missed and/or not exactly clear how we are going about this. Anyone have any thoughts??

That probably makes more sense. Right now its not too difficult, but I can see it becoming a night mare, with easily made mistakes.
