Re: "How long, has this been goin on?"

so I was looking at some old threads an seen this one! thought it made sense to bring up seeing that I haven't touched my truck in awhile! I bought my truck in pieces : cab 10-12yrs. ago, bed & frame a couple yrs. after that, then just this yr. bought a new to me frame cause the old one was bent! Every time I take paint off my truck I find rust holes, but I know one day I'll get it going!

Re: "How long, has this been goin on?"

I've worked on the '65 over the course of 275 days since 12-26-2012 (work on it most weekends). Still have at least another year to go.

I'm still active on the boards when I have time and I'm ready to get out to the shop and get busy, but life has really been getting in the way lately!

So I guess my question is, how long have some of you guys been at it on your trucks? I haven't (and won't) lose steam on the project, just curious how many of y'all are in the same boat as I am. GIVE ME HOPE!!!!

Re: "How long, has this been goin on?"

2.5 years for me. I bounce between 3 projects. I found that if I just put an hour or two in it a day, or every other day, I actually get a lot done. If I waited until I have a complete free day, nothing would get done.

Re: "How long, has this been goin on?"

Getting my 65 back, I started my upgrades with the goal of it not being out of commission for more than a winter. I do only what I know I can easily get done in one winter.
So far, I get to use my truck every summer.
.
When I owned my truck before - back in the early 80's, I had big goals. Tore it down and it stayed that way as it got moved from my grandparents, to a rental, to my sister's house.
So now, being older and looking back and seeing so many other friend's projects sitting for years unfinished, I learned a good lesson:
KEEP IT SIMPLE!

Re: "How long, has this been goin on?"

Went strong for the first 3 yrs. Next three have been, as long as I was working we could get fabrications done. On our seventh year, finally have saved enough for engine. This means we will finally be road ready. Kind of had it in mind it would have been done a few years ago. Wife almost axed the project a couple of times.

Re: "How long, has this been goin on?"

Took off like gang busters for the first year, was thinking I would be done in 2 - 5 years later I was done!

Worth it though

Don't let it get in the way of important stuff like business or you might have been further ahead buying a new one.

I would like to get the doors done before snow flies..

Talking Re: "How long, has this been goin on?"

I have been working on my truck off and on for 25 long years.

Sometimes I had to take a life of kid or $$ break. Even thought about selling a few times.

My truck is almost done. A few weeks to finish up the overdrive transmission and wheels and a few odds and ends and it will finally be the truck of my dreams.

I can tell you this much,
When you are finally able to see the finish line. It is an unbelievable feeling.

My advice:
Stay after it. When you need a break, take one. When you are on a break, save some $ for parts if possible. Then buy some parts and put them in the corner. Next time you motivated, you have some parts to install

Since 1986, so that just makes it a never ending project.

17 months but I had to go to work for nine of those in California to help pay for it.
