i've got about $5K in mine as it sits, and i have no engine to speak of yet, the EFI setup needs LOTS of work, no exhaust, no shocks, no front drive shaft, no lockers. hell, my body panels arent even rust free or matching in color.

wow what a bunch of schmo's. Yeah i got my truck free, hand me down that my dad drove for like 23 and a half years for a living. Wanna bet I drive my baby till it or I die? It would be a safe assumption.
So far? I've spent about 700-800 dollars, and i still NEED a carb, bed and body work, and a paint job. I keep telling people all i need is less than 2 grand. I used to think that was a lot of money. Hell, Christmas is gonna be GREEEAAAT here at the Darby household. 200 bucks cold cash that's gonna imediately be pissed away with whatever else i get from family for a carb. I know there are people MUCH worse off than us, and I'm glad i got what i dot, but I know people my age that could pay for everything for my truck with one swoop of the pen. I know people that will get for Christmas value-wise more than what it would take to finish my good ol' daily driver. But I gotta say, the only thing that keeps me going with this piece of sh!t (it sure isn't my old man, he don't give a crap about his classic pickup that he took immacualate care of) is you guys and your fansy rides. If my truck comes out fractionally as good as what you guys have done with $$$$$ then I couldn't be happier I'm gonna shut up with my rant now, I'm done venting.

I was a highschool student many years ago, and now that I have a few bucks and kids done with college I spend money on my truck with no sense of responsibility, that is the best way to spend money IMHO. So, . Now go to your room a do your homework, and be glad you have a truck from your father,

Let me jump in on the "how much do you have in your truck" thread. I've got too much in mine to suit me sometimes but it sure has been fun spending it and doing it. So far, I've got 24 grand in it and I've still got paint/bodywork to go.
On top of all that, this is not counting all the money spent on stuff I changed and sold at a loss. I don't even want to think about all that. Oh well. It's only money and you sure can't take it with you when you die. One thing is a positive. Don't think for one minute you will make any money off of it when/if you decide to sell it. It ain't happening.

having owned my 78 for 25 years next feb 6 I have a good size fortune in it. bought it for 4200 dollars feb 6,1980. It now has 206 k on the clock. been a sunday driver since a repaint in 92 . 5 engines, three transmissions, everything else at least once. spent 5 k in the last 2 years that i would admit too. Certianly cheaper to buy a truck finished then to do it it yourself. Maybe if one would do it right the first time he could save a few hundred steps. I sold my high school ride to get this truck. 68 camaro. I sold it for 800 dollars. I wish I could have it back for the same price. what was I thinkin. My truck may not seem like much to other people but it has alot of sentimental value to me. o2 silverado 1500 ext-cab lt 02 blazer extreme 95 monte carlo ls 78 stepside

If i had to guess, i would think i have about 8k in mine currently. but thats just a guess on the high side of things. The engine has about $4500+ in it, then the tires(wheels were free), suspension, interior parts, etc... |

hahahah this is kinda funny to me, i've owned my truck for like 1 year so far its had, 2 engines, 4 transmission (like 6 valve body jobs on one before it lost 3rd), 1 drive shaft, and 1 rear end.
the last time me and dad added it up it cost about 12K, that was before, my switch to 1 20 gallon tank, 88 truck sending unit and fuel lines, system (2K there atleast), rolelr rockers, valve covers, ford 9 (1.2K) drive shaft, battery relocation to the bed (150 or so) differnt gague cluster(30 i think), custom center console, mirrors, 1970 chevelle SS steering wheel(that probally cost more than the whole truck...) theres probally more random stuff i can't think of at the moment...and thats all on a truck with a bent frame and cab, i think i have won my name! but it shure does really well...and turns head with its loudarseness.

You might ask why I am pointing this out? It's because so many people laugh when they see a truck as nice as Mikes listed for 15 or 18 k and y'all swear the seller is nuts because you can build one twice as nice for half that much. Sorry to get off top but I just had to throw that in there..... |

i've had mine for about two and half years so far. Every receipt totalled is about 8500. The amount doesn't seem bad to me since it includes a new tranny, 12 bolt, wheels, the truck itself, and every oil change and little thing from the parts store. it seems bad when i'm considering a new suspension with 4 link and bags, new paint, new wheels, and a new motor.........God help us all with this addiction

Early in this post I said I was close to finished and had about $20,000 + in my truck.
Well, I lied, lied lied!! Who am I kidding? I still want (need) tubular a-arms, front suspension rebuild, want 4-wheel disc setup, maybe a Whipple supercharger,......................................................... I promise not to lie anymore. And I don't want to see anyone here ever again use the "F" (finished) word.

Honestly I don't ever want to know. Why bother? Just get done to it what you want and be happy. No need to total.

I am scared to total my receipts, even though it will be considerably less than the rest of you.
I have been considering selling it and it might be worth what I have into it, but I doubt it.

I probably got more than 6500 tied up in mine for sure, considering the 2,200 dollar purchase price and who knows how much in parts, and I want to put a new motor in it. I had to rebuild the transmission when I got it and replace quite a few parts, then I started buying all the fun stuff.
