After I swapped to 4.56 gears my speedo says I'm going 95 mph when I'm really only going 65.

Ya, I figured your's was corrected. I was just saying how wacky mine is. It's funny some of the looks from my passengers when they look down at the speedo and think that we're going almost 100 mph! Click on my sig link to see the truck and then you'll understand why 100 mph would be scary. |

I would be more than happy to pace you in the T/A some day on a desolate road if you would like to find the limits of the brick.

A couple of months back I scared the hell out of a guy in a camaro. He was tooling along and was trying to demonstrate that the LS-1 motor is nothing to contend with--UNTIL-- he met the 383 in an 84 GMC Sierra Classic. My Speedo has a blank spot after 85 MPH (The OH WOW area). With 3.73 gears and a 700R4 tranny, this can be achieved without any real due problem. The motor will climb fast and then hold a hundred plus with the tach in a reasonable range. The old brick of a truck held the Camaro's butt like glue. Love scaring the boys in the toy cars.

In '92 I bought an '86 Buick GN and about four days later me and a few friends were coming back from seeing some bands at about 3:00 am (I don't drink so I was ok!). The girl with us asked me how fast the car would go so we all looked at each other and decided to find out. At around 126mph it just wouldn't go any faster, but it was turning less than 5000? I figured it must be because I was in O/D (it was my first O/D car, and besides, what did I know, I was 22??). So I backed back down to around 85, pulled it down to "3" and went back up again. At about 105 I looked at the tach to see I was turning well over 6000!!! I pushed it into O/D and it again hit the wall at 126? We got off at the exit and when we slowed down at the light all you could hear was loud knocking coming from the engine . I remember people telling me I was a sucker for paying $1500 for a 4 year/48k extended warranty (car had 54k when I bought it), but it payed for itself three-fold in the next 2 weeks :p . It also put almost $10,000 into the car before I sold it (300 miles after the warranty expired!!). I learned later that the car had a speed governer at 126 because it came with "V" rated tires. I got carried away with that car and got a second job for about 1-1/2 years and poured every $ into that car. Put an after market 150 speedo in it and a "select-a-chip" with three different chips. Later on we maxed that speedo on the same stretch of I-5.

The speedo in my mom's 98 ford windstar goes up to like 120, and based on how fast it goes i bet it could go past that....hell, she does like 90 on the interstate. I hate riding with her, she drives like a maniac!!

My 1979 C-10 had a very, very tired 2 barrel totally stock smog era Olds 350 that dynoed at 112 rear wheel horsepower at 3800rpm and a peak torque of 471 Newtons (aided by the torque converted) at 2000rpm, TH400, ~31x9.50" worn out BFG radial A/Ts, 2.78 rear end gear in a 12 bolt.
The speedo, at around 65-70mph, was accurate within 5mph. The truck would bury the needle of the 100mph speedometer. I'll play it safe and say it could do 90mph with 112 rear wheel horsepower. Even if Eric's engine isn't tuned to get every last HP out, he should have +300hp. I think a ~180 horsepower increase is enough to gain 45mph at those speeds.

I would love to take a shot at a truck like ours with a 383 in it from a highway roll... Will do it any day, they will not win, nor will they keep up, unless they have lots of nitrous lol
If you ran an auto, its slightly possible...but not an LS-1 M6 with a person that can drive it the right way

the wagon is a miniature brick, and it just has an LT1 in it. I doubt I would get you from a 40-50 roll, but with my gearing I just bet you would be playing catchup from a dig, reguardless of how fast you shift that thing.

Driven one... Not even close lol. Not tryin to be rude mang. I love those cars though. THey are very clean..we almost bought one a couple years back.
But hey...its all in good fun, bring it on lol...you might have a bit of a drive though hehe! In all honesty..I think my car is slow. Just dont have the funds to do what I want with it right now. It should run a 12.90-13.0 on a good day now that I have a new clutch and tires comin on Saturday. its basically stock, just intake and exhaust.

I am a little confused. If you max out at 6000 rpms, and your axle ratio is whatever, how is horsepower going to give you 45MPH with the same gear ratio and RPM? I can see how more power would push the car better against the wind resistance, but 45MPH? Isn't 6000 RPMs always 6000 RPMs? That's why race cars build motors to rev up to 9000 or more. Maybe I can learn something here, go to bed less stupid tonight...

I would venture to say that catching a LS-1 with a manual is the same as catching an auto. There are quite a few that are strong runners and I will support that, since my project truck is getting a LS-1 motor. It just confuses the stupids that can't understand how that 4000 lb truck is sucking their butt off of their car. They go frantic and do dumb things after that. My truck starts to breath really good at 85 MPH plus and it justs keeps climbing from there. OH BY THE WAY, Mustangs are the same way DUHHH.

The manual is nothing like the auto on the highway. From a 60 mph roll, I can hit second gear and hold it to redline, the autos generally wont downshift from there. They also have a weaker gear ratio and such. I can walk a stock to stock M6 to A4 all day long in the M6.
But still you have a quick truck Im sure. Yes mustang usually = teh dummy hehe

hmm... dave, when we do that top speed run together, i think i'ma rig up something with the stock airbreather and a cold air that sucka.
i have no doubt i had the truck going 130mph. and i also have no doubt your car would beat my truck. now, i wanna see your truck and my truck together |

Granted a manual can be held into a gear longer, but there are those of us that have built autos that can handle that type of driving. My 700R4 will let me stick it where I want it and then shift when I need it to. As for stronger gears in a manual Maybe then Maybe not; don't go to the street with your Mutha's Camaro, bring good parts with you.
