Chevymex's tranny is an NP435, as has been established earlier in this thread.

Still have the tranny? I am thinking of taking my 3sp out for a 4sp. Need to research and see if it will bolt to my '69 transfer case. Any help on this?

Still got it. Trying to rid of it. I have never run it, but it looks to be in good shape and the board member I bought it from said it was working great. PM me your thoughts - don't want to hijack the thread.

Re: What kind of tranny is this?

I have seen both NP435 and SM465 and they do not look like mine definitly, in fact i can not see the place where the back up switch goes. Here it is another picture of my tranny. Can some one have something similar?

Re: What kind of tranny is this?

That transmission is not a Muncie or a New process. My guess is that it is a locally produced (Mexican built) Warner or Tremec. they have a history of doing things a bit different in Mexico. Like '88-'99 1/2 tons with Dana 44 rear axles.

Re: What kind of tranny is this?

Looks like it may be a Borg Warner T-19. I beieve the T-19's are syncrhonized in all gears (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th) and feature all helically cut gears.

Re: What kind of tranny is this?

This tranny came with the truck from the dealer in Mexico brand new with a 292 engine 6 cyl, my father bought this truck for his Ice factory, is a very strong tranny with 4 speed and reverse (low first, first, second and third), low first is at the left and up, reverse is at the right and up. I just did some maintenance work to her and i did not see any major problem, i can reach easily 65mph.

Re: What kind of tranny is this?

Sounds like a Clark pattern. Those Mexican trucks had no backup lights,so no switch.I wunder if these trucks are Mexican-built or more like Brazilian-built,like many other vehicles in the south of the border market.Originally I thought these were US-built and shipped less than complete then final assembled in Mexico. Now,I wunder if some components are US-built and shipped and the rest manufactured in Central or South America.Curious little buggers, aren`t they?
