Re: Pictures! '72 K-20..........Did I get shafted?

Those BBC might scoot down the road fast, but for all the fuel they burn they are useless for anything else.................I am really dissappointed in this one for towing, it was about useless.

We had a 392 IH in a Loadstar and it ran circles around this BBC, and that truck was grossing 17K..............

So, in goes the inliner or Cummins...............

We have a 392 in a old IH 1700 loadstar. I was just tooling around with it around the camproad, and I thought it seemed gutless as hell. Has a new Holley carb on it and it runs good, but doesn't seem to have much power. AND, it won't rev up like the 305.

392 will run just about as good as a 549..............Overall, IH built good truck engines. We've had 345's, 392's, 446's, and 549's, along with the older straight 6's and they'll get a load down the road, just not as quick as a contemporary Cat, Cummins, or Detroit.

We had a 549 in a 2010 Fleetstar, backed by a 5 spd with a 2 spd rear...........Unlike some of the loadstars we had you never had to drop the 2 spd on a big hill we had to climb to the elevator, she'd walk right up it at 28K rolling over the scales, but it cracked a head(Problem on that model engine) so we put a 555 Cummins in it, It went from a nice truck to a POS with the "tripple Trouble"................We had some ok trucks, but I always prefered to drive the neighbors, 2020 Fleetstar with a 6-71 Detroit, or the really nice 1750 IH with DT-466/5+2.

Never heard of anything bigger than a 404. Big truck stuff is not one of my high-knowledge subjects.
