Re: My 85 Extended Cab, you heard correctly.
That lined bed is...a thing of beauty. I bet that was lot of work prepping it.

Re: My 85 Extended Cab, you heard correctly.
Yes the whole bed was a lot of work due to all the fabrication we had to do to it....Like I said earlier from the front of the gas opening all the way across through the floor we had to cut out 18". The Line X dealer did the rest...I'm not sure if they stripped the paint or what...but everything aside from the bed floor was new including the rear aftermarket fenders.

Re: My 85 Extended Cab, you heard correctly.
Lets get some pictures of the interior, mostly the extended cab.
The more detailed pictures you can provide the better. Jeff (73-87.com) could share your truck with the world!

Re: My 85 Extended Cab, you heard correctly.
Okay give me a few minutes...I've got some on my Computer just got to find them...here's one with everything out of the cab..looking into the extended cab part of it, funny thing is it looks like the floor of the extended cab is the 18" they cut out of the "Long Box", it must of been a conversion company...

One a little further back. the second one is of the new sheet metal on top, it's from an Astrovan's roof..notice the ridges, they weren't there before, gives it a nice look though.

Re: My 85 Extended Cab, you heard correctly.
I believe the ones I have seen locally were 5 lug 1/2 tons. I wonder if yours was converted by the folks here in Texas, or by another company?

Re: My 85 Extended Cab, you heard correctly.
Yeah I'm not sure about this trucks history. But I do know this one is a 1 ton not even a 3/4 ton. It was used on the railroad before we bought it, we know this b/c there's a sticker on the sun visor that tells how to operate it on the rail road tracks...It used to be construction orange before it was painted the first time by the previous owner.
We found it at some used dealership in Arkansas so it's possible it came from Texas. |

Re: My 85 Extended Cab, you heard correctly.
I just took a few more pics just for you guys We got rid of the huge stock mirrors, and put "hot rod style" smoothie ones. Also the Extended cab window's are from an 1980's S-10 Extended cab, the original ones didn't open, they also didn't look very good.

Re: My 85 Extended Cab, you heard correctly.
NICE!!!
Looks like you have a lot of time and work into it. Did the S-10 windows fit in or did you have to fab the cab to make them fit? I guess fabbing that wouldn't be much more than fabbing the roof and a completely new bed???

Re: My 85 Extended Cab, you heard correctly.
Suprisingly the s-10 windows fit with out the need for fabrication...We have our body man to thank for that idea, and I'm not going to take the credit for the work.. he did it all the bed the roof..but I'm the one that gave him the money to do it!!

Wow, the truck sure did turn out nice! If interested, send some pics and some good technical info about the truck (and a little about you and your location) to jdrew@73-87.com. I will add your truck to readers rides for everyone else to see.

Re: My 85 Extended Cab, you heard correctly.
Yeah that one looks more like mine...all the others I saw were C 10 and they looked almost like low riders, mine is a 2wd C 30. Looks a lot different with that red paint.

Re: My 85 Extended Cab, you heard correctly.
I have a 77 LWB C10 that I am about to start restoring. Almost no dents or rust, not even in the rockers. I am extremely interested in doing this to mine being that I have everything but the rear of the cab to do it. My question is, was there another cab used as a donor for the section added into the cab, or was it fabricated? Modifying the box would be pretty straight-forward. We did something similar to a 71 long bed to make a short bed once. It actually came out looking alot better than a factory short fleetside. More symetrical. The cab modification on the other hand is something that I have never attempted before, so I was curious about whether or not this was going to be a huge project or just something a little simpler, like the bed?

Re: My 85 Extended Cab, you heard correctly.
The cab was fabricated, but I do not know how exactly, as it was like this when I bought it 10 years ago. One interesting thing is the floor of the extended section is part of the 18 inches cut out of the long bed. I could send you measurements of the cab and bed if you want.

Re: My 85 Extended Cab, you heard correctly.
I'm still unsure if this is a factory built truck or if it's a conversion, from what most have said on here it sounds like a conversion company in Texas did this to some of them, I don't know if the one I have is one of those but I did call the plant in Wisconsin a few years ago that built this and they claimed there were only 707 built in 1985, but I'm unsure of the details, they could have shipped 707 to a conversion company I just don't know..but GM was involved in their production in some way, this wasn't just a third party idea b/c they do know how many were built in 1985.
This started out as a railroad truck though, construction orange, so it may not have even been availble to the public for purchase. There's a sticker in the sun visor that tells how to get on and off the rail roads. |
