Yeah for some reason the Blazers look better,, I think the windshield needs an aggressive rake to make it work with the trucks. I guess we'll find out when I hack mine off.

That rake of the windshield looks good. Interesting idea overall.

Re: Post your pics of our trucks as convertibles

Wish I had a camera yesterday. When I pulled up to my house after work a white Suburban(71 or 72 I think, could not see the front end) went through the intersection. It had the top cut off from the tailgate to the windshield. It was capped from the passenger doors to the windshield with a black top like a Blazer. Never seen that before.

I wanted to rake mine, but I just couldn’t figure out the cut. I was afraid if I just cut at the pillars and pulled it back there would be in issue with the lower windshield lip being left at a different angle.

You can’t lay the lower lip too far back with out it interfering with the dash. I think I would have to lay everything back including the dash by separating it at the sides where it attaches to the cab side wall.

I got frustrated trying to figure out how to lay it back, so I just chopped it down another 2 inches from what I originally wanted the chop.

I still want to change it up a little, but I cant figure it out. I cant even figure out which bed to keep on it. I need to be heavily medicated. You should come down and help me figure it out before you chop yours, I got fresh sawsall blades LOL

Now that you mention that I see what you mean, it is very close and I can see the bottom not sealing correctly. Hummm. I like the fleet bed though, the step kinda looked out of place IMO.

I'm working on getting the truck back running again before the chop, so driving down in it right now is out. If you want to start over on yours I'll gladly swap out cabs hahahahaaaa

Re: Post your pics of our trucks as convertibles

Jamis,

I had orginally thought about correcting the issue with the windshield...my answer was to just move it forward and down a little.....it would give it a nice rake..and wouldn't interfer with the dash..it would require a lot of fab work to get it right...but it would be SUPER SWEET!

I know you'd have to do away with the cowl vents and the wipers...but who needs those on a roadster?

this is just a quick photochop.....

unless it is going to look like the black one in this thread, leave it alone. And PLEASE quit laying frame. Lowered is good but what is the point of laying frame? How fast can your truck run when you are throwing sparks?

That wood look cool.....but a lot of extra work.
Whish there were a better pick of that flat black blazer. The cowl seems to come up higher.... something defiantly different in that cowl area

Careful what you wish for I change mine mind more often then my underwear. There have been many of days when I would like to just crush the cab and start over.

Re: Post your pics of our trucks as convertibles

heres some pics of what started out as a 72 gmc longbed 2wd, but i no didnt want a long bed. so i tore sthe truck apart and cut the frame down to a shortbed and added trailing arm rear suspension. and i had a well built 468 done for it with low compression to allow twin turbos to live together with that motor. i found a 4l80e trans and some short bedsides, but i just kept seeing all the blazers with the roadster treatment. and i thought im not going to drive this in bad weather, so might as well chop the roof and doors down and mate the bed to the cab. and i will end up with a tahoe wheelbase blazer roadster, so after its all mated together and roadstered. i would like to try and take a set of door openings and doors i have from another cab and flip the openings around and install them suicide direction on the rear and bob the rear about 8 inches. so if all goes well i should end up with a 67 chevy 2wd tahoe roadster. heres some pics.

and hers a p.s. of what i hope it to turn into.

i admire your confidence, and workmanship...
and i know that one idea would lead to another,
but to me, looks like when you mated the bed and everything, you just ended up with a blazer on steroids... why bother? why not have just bought a blazer?

i think trucks should't be convertable
just my 2 cents though..

Re: Post your pics of our trucks as convertibles

Rancid, it looks like a cool idea. I don't want to rain on your parade or anything, but if you bob the rear that much, where are you going to put the gas tank? I'm assuming that the twin-turbo 468 will be more than a little thirsty! Good luck with it!

Re: Post your pics of our trucks as convertibles

well i better check out the gas tank issue, but this might go propane anyway and i might look at different tanks behind the seat. and as far as why not just buy a blazer, the amount of things i will need to do to get it as a roadster is alot and then most blazers i find have a bad floor or and bedsides. and i for some reason like the idea of a little more wheelbase, for the option of adding the extra set of doors.

Re: Post your pics of our trucks as convertibles

my problem when i cut the rood off the nissan was everytime you drove it that windsheild shook..it eventually got weak so i tacked some rebar inside for extra support..you might want to consider that before you cut into it

I drove my old 72 Blazer with no top for years and never had a problem with the windshield, any thoughts on the Blazers having more support? (Although the top pillars rusted out and the whole top windshield support fell in my lap when driving one day haha)
