Re: Post your pics of our trucks as convertibles

Military theme looks kind of cool. Wouldn't you need some sort of rollbar for safety and to stiffen up the cab?

Re: Post your pics of our trucks as convertibles

there would be no reason to stiffen it up, the cab roof does little to no support like on a car.
The car roof spans a greater length over the chassis. A 2 1/2 foot long piece of sheet metal can't offer any support, esp since the bolts from the cab are about 2 to 3 feet apart too.

Re: Post your pics of our trucks as convertibles

I kinda like the convertible truck look, just about the same as a 2wd blazer. But,please dont make a convertible longbed.A 2wd shortbed could resemble a 2wd blazer, but the longbeds.....they need to stay trucks. No offense longbed owners

I can't do that to mine. I need something for my head to bounce off of when I hit the gas.

Re: Post your pics of our trucks as convertibles

I think I'm the only one that has one. There was another member with a similar project but I can’t remember his name, haven’t seen him in a while.
There are things you can do to help stiffen the rear cab wall, it does not need much. As far as a roll bar goes I cant decide if I want one or not. As far as the dangerous aspect goes, it a lot safer then a T-bucket, its fair weather roadster not a daily driver or work truck but I will keep a mask and snorkel in the glove box incase of rain. Safer then a bike I guess LOL

It was a lot of work and sometimes I get frustarted with it. It is more of a body mod and fabrication learning curve for me. Have learned a lot in doing it, but somedays I get frustared and want to scrap it.....know what I mean.

I have a clean rear roof section if thats all you need. Your welcome to drive down to Naples and have it.

Re: Post your pics of our trucks as convertibles

I think it looks alright. If I did it, I'd make the roof section replaceable (like a Blazer) so you could still use it if you want.

It will eventually get a Carson top built for it. But I haven’t found anyone in Florida that does upholstery work that can give me the details on fabricating the frame so they can cover it.
Everyone I have talked to just give me a blank stare.....they don’t know what a Carson top is. I guess I got to ship it to Cali to get it done....LOL

Re: Post your pics of our trucks as convertibles

Hmm, I'm from Cali and I don't even know what a carson top is. I probably know, just haven't heard of it referred to as such. Anyway, sounds like it will look pretty killer when you get it accomplished! I may want to tackle that in the far off future.

I really appreciate the offer, thats whats nice about this board and community!! Its the front that is getting rotten though.
Your photo bucket pics were great! I think I might just give this a try. As stated above I was headed for the "beater" look anyway and not concerned about keeping anything original.
I had a Blazer in high school with the top removed (this was in Hawaii), when it rained it was fine until you came to a stop light.
Thanks again for the offer on the top!
Eric

I chopped the top on my old 68 and the doors have a hard time latching just after a couple of days of driving. They do need some sort of brace on the rear wall. The truck has been long gone, so no photos .

you could always go with one of the "Ratical" soft top kits. I've seen them advertized for years...
