with matching size tires the front appears higher than the rear and i like the slight rake look

IMHO, what you are thinking about would really work with your truck.
I wouldn't go any less than the 235's in the front, thats gettin to be not much tire there to have plenty of stability @ that these trucks' weight.

If you want her higher bro then I'd say 235 60 or so in front and do a 70 series or something out back, a 285 70 or something around that size would definately raise the back up some.

Also just keep in mind let's say 235/60 vs. 275/60

The 275 is gonna be wider of course but it will also be taller. The 60 is your aspect ratio it means the sidewall is 60 percent as tall as the 275/tread is wide.

So in theory let's say your tread is 10 inches wide, and you have a 50 series that means it's half so you should have a 5 inch sidewall. Whther it's true or not is hard to tell. I was always told that though.

You'll get alot of people who say NO 50 series is how wide the tires is.

That's when you come back to the same thing, take the 235/60 and set it next to the 275/60 and se which is wider. If 60 series was tread width they'd be the same, but they are not.

Just as a 70 or 75 series is taller then a 60 or 50.

I think you'd be fine with either setup you asked about, 235/60 f and 275/60 r, or do a 285 70 or even 60 out back either would raise you up a tad more in the back compared to the front. I think both would fill the wells very nicely.

Sweet! Have you checked with a dealer to see if you can get the 285/70's?
The only manafacturer that makes them is BFGoodrich in a T/A Radial. The last I heard they had discontinued them but there are alot still in warehouses. I don't mean to burst your bubble, but you might want to check some tire dealers.

Yea definately check around. 255/60's are nice tires I like em, just should be fatter.

Also as I said I want to do a 3/5 drop on ours and I think 3 would fill the wells perfect with the 255/60 and not rub either.

no i havnt checked yet
i go through a place that sells generic tires for cheap
I dont need fancy expensive tires and i dont drive on the highway much
if i cant get the 285/70 what size would be close to it that i can run on an 8" rim

The tires i was looking at were Eldorado Legend GT and the best i can do is a 275/60
Then i would want to do a 235/60 in front to bring the front level if not a little lower than the rear

Get yourself a 70 series sidewall or 75 then if you want the back taller, then do a 50-65 up front with a thinner tire like a 235.

You could run a 255/70/15 in the rear with a 225/70/15 front. This combo should fill the wheel wells nice without looking bulgy or too prostreet. I'm running 255/70/15's all around on my 86. Nice, tall tire and not too wide. You should be able to get those sizes in a generic tire. The last time I priced the BFG 285/70's, they were about $115 a piece, so if you're on a budget, I think you would be happy with this combo.

If you still want the fatter 60 series, I still recommend a 275/60 rear 245/60 front. There is still a pretty noticeable difference in size here. I think the 235/60's look better on cars and mid-sized trucks. Even with your truck lowered 3" in front, the 235/60's will leave too much gap between your tire and fenders and look odd compared to the rear.

In most cases I've seen in staggered tire sizes, staying within 3 width sizes of the same profile looks best.

Here are some examples. Here are pictures of all our cars with staggered tire sizes. The Monte Carlo has a 245/60/15 rear with a 225/60/15 front. The ElCamino has a 235/60/15 rear with a 215/60/15 front. My Black 68 has 275/60/15 rear and 255/60/15 front. The 53 has 255/70/15 rear and 235/70/15 front. All of them have 2 width size differences and the stagger fits well. The last pic is my 86 with 255/70's all around.

Your truck seems lower in the rear, so you kind of need to ge about 3 sizes smaller to acheive a level stance and still look well proportioned.

I run 245/60/15s in the front and 295/50/15s in the rear. They are the same height (26.8" tall) and the width of the 295s is around 12" of tread pattern. A 255 tire is just a 1/2" taller and that would work in the front also. These tires will fit an 8" rim.

any pics of that? I have 295's in the rear and was thinking 235's in the front so I'd have a really small amount of rake.

I have done three trucks this way, my 84 GMC, My Son's 86 Silverado, and my 91 Silverado--daily driver. I set up the rake with the suspension components and the tires take care of themselves. There is plenty of clearance and I can handle rough roads with any of the trucks.

thanks for the pics, trucks look great. I'd think Id rather have the sidewall a bit shorter in front, on your 84 it looks like the front might be taller, probably just the picture though. How wide are your wheels on the 84

The wheels on all of these trucks are 15" X 8". IF you want a thinner appearance to your truck tires, then you will probably want to go with 17" rims or larger. If you put smaller tires on the 15", then you need to lower the truck more than just a few inches.

Im going to a huge swap meet tomorrow and Saturday so i am going to try and find a set of rims with tires. I may not get the tire size i want but if its decent and a good deal i can live with that
