That's flywheel on the dyno so with no water pump, alt. and such, not sure what it would be making in the truck.

Geting in the 9's is fast fast for a truck --- you guys are crazy.

I'd put a cage in anything capable of 11's with that high center of gravity and exposure

Re: post 1/4 mile times

are you guys getting those kinds of whicked 60 foots on stock rear suspension...and just drag slicks?

i dont have my full G yet (G1 currently) so i havent been to the track.

my truck dyno'd at 450 hp @ the crank. (its a 383 stroker) with stock everything else (i.e suspension & brakes). T350 with 2800 stall and 3.45 gears.

im hoping for like mid-12's maybe?

what do you guys think?

Re: post 1/4 mile times

I did my 1.6 60 ft with stock suspension and a 12 in slick with wider wheel tubs. Think i can pick up 60 ft when i put screws in rims so the rims will quit spinning inside my slick and some tunning. 684 hp at 7000 rpm and 568 torq at 5700 rpm, just seams like it should run faster than 11.50's. Still need to play with jetting because mph seams slow. 71dragtruck, what does you're truck run without nitrous? Maybe that might give me an idea if im even close to running what you run. Not sure what my truck weighs.

I was running 11.7 with my 750 carb, thinking with my 850 that it should be in the 11.6's, haven't ran it off the bottle with that carb yet. I ran 10.95 on the bottle with the 750 carb, and picked up 2 tenths with the bigger carb so that's how I guessed it would run 11.6 N/A average?

Mark your tires and rim and then launch and see it your tire slipped before you screw it, to be honest I'd be surprised if it's slipping that much. You using your trans brake? My times are off the foot brake around 4500 stall.

Last thing, I'd guess your truck is around 3900 to 4000lbs. Mine is a long box with a roll bar and weighs 4128 no stereo or heater (but that was very light to my surprise) and I have aluminum heads and rad. Hope some of that info helps out in your comparison. Oh and my track is 2000 feet above sea, other track I've run at is 2500.

In my opinion don't take dyno numbers to heart, they will differ from dyno to dyno and they can be worked to look real good. Car Craft did a thing about them awhile back. Use the dyno to break it in and tune the highest number your motor can make on it, and find out your power band. My motor was still making power at 6500 with 39* timing running C12 on the final pulls, when I went to the track I found it likes to be shifted at 6200 better.

I love your truck! put the cage in it and have a blast!

I bought 67Dragtucks old truck rolling and changed it up a bunch! I want a bigger motor but I'll have to live with my 468 for now!

My times are in my sig!

Re: post 1/4 mile times

thanks djracer, i believe i will end up putting a cage in it and spraying a little nitrous to get in in the mid 10's. I really don't want to slow down, it's to much fun. You have one wicked ride.

Re: post 1/4 mile times

Being a 69 454 SWB TH400 owner, I love your results and love this thread. It's very inspiring as to the potential that's in my ride. Personally I'd be right proud of a 684 horse dyno slip and a sub 12 second ET time slip.

Regarding cage or no cage, I'd do some soul searching and try to decide what my goals for the truck are. Am I into owning and showing off a very fast street truck, or am I into drag racing and just going fast? If the latter, then I think the ride you have is too nice for cutting up into a drag racing platform and personally I'd find an alternative platform to race with.

Food for thought.

Thanks for the benchmark.

9.40 @ 138 w/ 1.34 60' @ 3,800#
Been awhile since I've messed with the truck but ready to get back on it. After tearing the 12bolt rear twice last time I was running I put a new Mosier Dana 60 under the truck. I'm thinking I moved the WEAK LINK and hope everthing else holds up.

you need to change your signature..138MPH at 3800lbs equates to over 820HP...very nice

Re: post 1/4 mile times

BigJim signature hp numbers are motor only actual dyno numbers. Motor should be closer to 700hp now since I had the 290cc GMPP ovalport heads fully ported and put a little larger roller cam after I got truck running later. Best track #'s are with the spray. Motor only times were 10.70ish. Actually looking at freshing up motor soon and go to a F1-R or F2 procharger which should put me at 1,100-1,200 hp.

11.65 @ 112, thats with a 502/502 and a truck that weighs 3800lb with driver. I had a cage fitted, it's not easy with the narrow chassis. I go racing so had to.

Re: post 1/4 mile times

Desktop Dyno numbers are 574 HP @ 5600 R, 604 TQ @ 4000 RPM with my 496.... Just because Desktop Dyno is so grossly unrealistic, I would say I make 530 HP and 550-570 TQ, without spray.

On the bottle (150 NX shot) through second and third gears only ( pistons arent forged... ended up not being able to afford them and I wanted to finish the motor), should be somewhere around 650 HP and 670 TQ? What do you guys think?

Im putting a roll bar in it this summer, building a triangulated 4 link with drag shocks on all 4 corners, making a simple sheet metal tonneau, and some light weight loss (hood, bumpers, aluminum buckets, and speed glass in the rear window). Its a SWB fleet. Im guessing around 4500-4600lbs.

TH350, LSD 12 bolt, and Hoosier PRO DOT 14.50/28"s out back.

You guys confident that I can break into the 11's on bottle, and compete in pro bracket with a mid-low 12 on motor alone?

I went 13.9@97mph on m/t sportsman 29X12.50-15's with a 2.4 60' footer no traction at all through first gear and some issues in 2nd. 355 alum. heads 6 inch rods 750 vacum sec. shorty headmen headers. full interior subs radio heater inner fender wells .Need to really dial her we still got a lot left in the tune. I shooting for a low 12 really want high 11 though. May add some nitrous.

Re: post 1/4 mile times

72Blu I would say 500-530hp would be real close to actual hp. I ran a 454 w/781 's ovalport 10:1 motor in my 72 swb way back and ran 13.40's and 11.80's on a 175 shot cheater system. If you have a good gear ( 3.73 but perfer 4.10's), you probably wont see 12's on motor with current cam and heads.I would say 13.00-13.20 motor and 11.80 - 12.0 w/150 shot. Be careful with the spray ,I would start on the low hp setting and work your way up with no more than 150 w/the hypertec's. And keep a close eye on Fuel pressure and plugs.Let me know if I can answer any questions on the nitrous I've ran lots of nitrous and can help if needed.

Seen your other post on weekend BB on budget.Reminds me of right out of highschool a buddy blewup the motor in his '70 SB LWB on a Friday night. He also had a '69 Chevelle with a BB at the house. SO... we go pull the motor out of the Chevelle and put it in the truck that night and Saturday night we were crusing in the BB truck.Lots of people were asking I thought you blew the motor? He would just smile and say ..yea I did.
Great to see the younger Generation still in to Classic trucks.

Check with S&W race cars for the roll bar they revised their main hoop after I ordered mine a few years back and they now have a nice fit. Believe I talked to Don.

After lookin at your signature, says 496 and your build from other post says 454 but stroke says 4.025 (typo) .So are you @ a 4.00 stroke(454) or 4.25 stroke (496).

I will find out next Friday tenatively. Going to run some 285/70/15's on the back (with posi) with the combo below at Cecil county, MD. If anyone want to guess my ET, feel free, we'll see how close you get

A friend of mine has a 69 Torino cobrajet, and we have a score to settle 8-)

72blu I'd keep the trailing arms!

Tubbed 68 any ideas why it won't hook? Is it trailing arm?
