Re: LT1 Swap

The picts aren't showing up? I have one languishing away in storage waiting for me to get to it. I started this swap 4 or 5 years ago and the LS was still spendy, then I bought a 6.0/4l80e and sold it before I swapped it. The LT1 is too easy to do and super cheap, still usues most GEN I SBC stuff (well, one piece rear main SBC, crank, rods, etc, etc) so they are simpler to work on and less of a hassle, especially if the swap is about driveability and dependability. For all out power, the LS series is a better foundation, but the LT1/4 is not junk by any means and the ones I see here are sweet! Makes me want to get my swap in gear!

Use the 6 cylinder mounts and bolt them up. No distributor in the back to get in the way.

Re: LT1 Swap

Got one in my '71 GMC, been driving the daylights out of it this summer. I kinda hacked the factory harness out of a Caprice to work in the truck, it is not pretty, but very functional. Someday I am going to clean up the harness and make it look presentable. What is everyone doing for the fuel pump???? I get the same question, why not an LS1, my answer, if you pay for it, I will put it in. I picked up the LT1 complete with harness, accesories and transmission for a song!!!

Re: LT1 Swap

Looking sweet, did it come from a Camaro?? Mine is out of a Caprice, but I picked up a set of Vette heads on the bay for pennies, so I am ready to go, just can't decide if I want to do the 350 as is or stroke it to 383 before I start?! I want a DD with decent MPG, but I also know there is a ton of power being left on the table leaving it as a 350.

Re: LT1 Swap

Yes mine is from a 96' Camaro, I already had a 700R4 in the truck, so just bolted it up to that. Yeah I want to do a stroked LT1/4 with it someday

Re: LT1 Swap

Very nice, I am glad I haven't tossed my LT yet. I've had a lot of thinking and rethinking on it and I am just not with the LS crowd to the point of ignoring the LT's (I have one of both!)

My headers are a mid-length camaro header with d-port gaskets. No problems with them at all.

Re: LT1 Swap

I have a 383 LT1 I built for a 93 Trans Am I used to have. If I ever put it in something I'll let you know how it compares to a stock one . They dont have as much power as a LS stock but they are still fun to drive. The only thing I dont like is it seems all the LT1 specific stuff costs $500.00.

My set up is pretty mild but should have no problem planting me in the seat.
bored 30, 12.5:1 compression
Balanced Scat crank, and rods, hyper pistons.
LT4 Hot cam kit.
stock aluminum heads (might upgrade to LT4 heads if I find a deal)
new GM 4L60 with 4.3 Torque converter (higher stall on the cheap)
I will run a 3:73 gear the A4 likes this best, manuals like 4:10's

I am still have the harness and ECM so I will make that work. The guy who bought the TA put a big block in it. I kept most of the the misc stuff I will need for a swap.
