Re: what did you get done 4/19/09

Put a stereo in my 80 using the sub and amp that's been following me around for years.I finally decided to build a box and get some use out of it before I get too old....it's borderline too loud .Cleaned the garage, did up some BBQ ribs and enjoyed some great weather!

If only everyone else was that smart. I need to go to the local junkyards and find a few 6.2's for some diesel swaps!

I was presently surprised when I picked it up that the whole harness was removed with only 1 cut in it.

Re: what did you get done 4/19/09

I pulled the airhorn of the q-jet and fixed several issues.

Both high-speed air-bleed tubes had fallen out of the air horn and were sitting in their wells. Hammered them bank in.

Float level was 3/16" and was supposed to be 3/8".

Needle was hooked to float with 2 of the little hanger clips, one through each hole in the float bar. Put in a new needle & seat and float. Hung the needle how it was meant to be.

Adjusted the air-door spring to 7/8 turn. It was at about 1/2.

Gasket was folded over on the drivers side secondary.

Front mounting bolts - 1 cross-threaded and one wasn't even finger tight. Several of the air horn screws were just finger tight also. I know they're not supposed to be torqued down real hard, but they shouldn't move from the weight of the screwdriver. New air horn gasket and tightened everything down correctly.

After I was done, I adjusted the idle mixture and speed since it was running much faster now. Throttle response is much better and I think the gas mileage will improve, but I haven't been able to test it yet.

I know lots of people don't like them, but it's really hard to beat a well tuned Quadrajet for a daily driver carb. (It's just hard to get them tuned that way sometimes.)

honestly i should have... but being i have a new cab that im gonna swap on it anyway i didnt put any supports in there... after a few days of driving it around and everything settling the doors are getting harder and harder to close.. im gonna be swaping this cab onto my longbed 87 but im gonna weld the doors closed and probley put a roll cage in it before i do... the cab itself is borderline rotted so thats why it setling the way it is... i may be buying a 77 longbed and do the same... only brace it better this time.. this was just kind of a test to see what it would look like cause the cab was toast anyway
