Good news and bad news...

Bad news is, both trucks are still rust buckets.

Good news is, I got BOTH of them fired up and running today.

The '72 had about 10 gallons of water and 2 gallons of gas in the tank.
I drained the tank, refilled with 5 gallons of Sunoco, took a little sandpaper across the points, replaced the fuel pump and rotted rubber hose... and she fired right up and idled like she was just running yesterday. (It's been 5+ years since it ran)
Total cost $34 in parts + $14 in gas.
I REALLY wanted to take it for a spin around the block, but just couldn't risk a catastrophe or stalled motor. I'm in no shape to push a 2 ton truck.

The '67 has always started when I dropped a battery in it and hit the key. This time was no different. My only surprise was when I backed it down off the slab and down the steep hill in my driveway and found NOTHING when I stabbed the brake pedal. I quickly jammed it into 1st and rode the clutch down until it stopped. Scared the poo out of me.
Master cylinder was dry of course.

Anyway, our neighborhood is having a huge yard sale this weekend, so I figured I'd park 'em near the curb for visibility and a 'coupla pictures.

I drove an hour this morning and picked up a usable 67 hood, rad support, hood latch, spare grille and LF fender for a '68. Matbe I'll just weld the sidemarker shut, instead of searching for another 67 fender. (Nobody seems to have an original driver side '67 fender anywhere local.)

Once I got home, I started tearing into the project...
I have the 67 cab pretty well gutted and ready to be unbolted... and started pulling the front end off the '72. Tomorrow, depending on the weather, I may try to get the bed off the '67. After that, I will work on getting the cab high enough to roll the chassis out from under it and on to my car trailer for a visit to the scrapyard...

what a find. Does it run? Do you have a pic of the SPID sheet? Looks as though you could just clean it up a little and turn around and sell it again for funds for your other truck. If you do decide to part it. I'd be interested in the carpet. Cnut

Well... I've had quite the busy weekend. Saturday evening both these trucks were together... Today I started buzzing them apart.
I'll be scrapping the 67 chassis and all the 72 sheetmetal. The 72 cab is junk... all the cab supports are completely gone and collapsed. Both 72 fenders were junk, and even the 72 bed was rotted really bad. I just took the wheel tubs out of the 72 bed so I can widen the ones on the 67 bed.

The 67 cab is in much better shape than the 72. All the cab supports are solid, except for some rot out near the inner rocker panel. I think inner/outer rockers and a few other bits n pieces will get the 67 cab back in good shape.

Don't ever let anyone tell you a cab and bed can't be removed by yourself. I'm sure I'll be a hurt'n puppy tomorrow. lol

And... watch where you lay your tools and extension cords when removing the heavy step bumpers... I cut the bolts off mine and the bumper fell on my Milwaukee angle grinder cord AND my heavy gage extension cord at the same time, cutting them both off as clean as a pair of cutters. lol
