Re: Rusty Frame Painting Help
poly bed liner is FAR superior to por 15. it looks like undercoating and even will act as a sound deadener. mythbusters showed it even absorbs energy from explosions.....try that with your precious por 15. i used proper prep and both black and gray formulas. it was a waste of time and energy. i will never recommend it to anyone. there are many products and practices out there that are much better. i've seen powder coating last for years but i still advocated something more flexible and forgiving for the undercarraige. rubberized undercoating works but moisture gets under it and it will dry and break off after a few years.

I have had por 15 on every rockcrawler jeep I have owned and it never came off, even after dragging them across jagged rocks. Try that with powdercoating. It's pretty for show trucks but not practical for drivers.

Re: Rusty Frame Painting Help
O.K., maybe an obvious question, but do you need a respirator when you brush the stuff on? (POR 15) Garage door and windows open, very little smell.

you'd swear the frame was powder coated and I used a foam brush... 1.5 quarts did my frame, axles, springs, hitch with 2 coats. I did find that battery acid will take it off, but I couldn't even chip it off either..

Re: Rusty Frame Painting Help
I do not use a respirator when brushing it on, but it is probably not a bad idea. I always have the garage door and windows open though.

C'mon, $12.99 for ONE rattle can of a silver to spray your gas tank?! I just don't believe a can of Rustoleum Pro wouldn't do just as well. Last edited by Dan in Pasadena; 02-06-2010 at 08:36 PM. |

Re: Rusty Frame Painting Help
You "dont" have to top coat a frame... never gets enough UV light, plus all that happens is the por15 starts getting lighter.
You can thin por15 but you need to buy the por15 "solvent" it’s not that expensive and it sprays awesome. Make sure to use a ****ty gun and clean it well. I sprayed my whole frame. I would use a respirator... I’m sure there is some harmful stuff that evaporates off.
