We got the tape out. We went back about 2 1/4 but I WOULDN'T do that again. I think 1 3/4" is where I want to go but looking at room to fan, I'm going to see what stock does for me on the next one.

Not the greatest picture but you can see the bolt head at the 2" - 2 1/2" point. That is the stock hole and I've lined the smart end up with the center of the mount.

Engine position. Valve cover to firewall. TIGHT!



Dizzy to firewall.



Fan to radiator.



With my mounting system, I've got plenty of room. I'm looking at Jeff's system for the next one with an aluminum rad and electric fan to get more room.

the S-10 v-8 motor mount DID work for me just drilled new holes...

I know pics can be deceiving, but it appears you have a ton of room behind the distributor. I've got 1 1/2 to the firewall, running a short water pump, and still I'm tight up front. I know I don't have near the clearance from firewall to rear of the passenger side cylinder head. Am I missing something? Some guys have it too easy.

Southbounddee How's the rad clearance now that you've got the engine in there? How far back did you drill the new holes? I don't think I will go as far back on the next one but I'd like to see what is out there. Great idea on the S10 mounts with the redrill. If you don't need a mechanical pump, it is probably the fastest way to go!

99 to life,..i found the valve covers at the super chevy show swap meet ($40.00), there from the 60's or the 70's,good luck finding a pair i've only seen i pair besides mine...

jeffs51chevy,..i got 2 3/4'' from the firewall to the head and 4'' from the back firewall to the distributor...i really don't think we all have our cabs in the exact same spot, there's never a step by step instructions when building a hot rod,...it's all about our choice on what parts to use that makes it work in diffrent ways...

Dan,..well what i did was hold the passenger side mount up to the block and got as close to the fuel pump hole made sure i could still get a blank plate on it mark the first bolt hole,used the other mount to trace the bolt pattern and drilled a way, it seemed to move the motor back 1 1/2'' from the stock location.As for the clearance on the radiator i haven't put the front clipp back on yet, i will be using a short water pump,thin pulleys (one belt)i'm not using power steering ,my electric fan is slim and the radiator is thin ,i'll post more when i get that far...

I totally agree. I hope I didn't come off like I know everything. I think you are doing some fine fab work and your truck rocks. I just have not seen any of these swaps with that much room behind the motor. You have mad skills. I know it will all work out. Keep the pics comming.\

i just hope it's not too much room,and it works,the mounts came with the S-10 and i'm tring to use what i got,guess i need to put the front clipp back on and make sure before i put the tranny in and make a cross member?!. p.s. your shop is killer!

Group hug!

I'd SAY you are full of poo! But I think you are really not that far off!!

I'm at about 1 3/4" and have room with a short pump and PS pulleys. You are running a thinner set up and an electric fan so it could be just fine. You may also have your cab back a bit further than I do so you COULD shift it if you need to.

I had those mounts and sold them to a kid putting a V8 into his S10. We just put the block off plate on and ran with it. I struggled to get the motor in with the plate so the next one is going to be different and the way you did it IS different.

Keep going. I'm watching intently and the only poo is on my shoe!!

And I'm not certain but I THINK those are Cal Custom valve covers. You aren't going to find any at Autozone!
