Re: Factory odd ball trucks
I've never heard of a truck from the 80s that had a 5 speed other than an S-10. 4 speed with granny first, 3 speed with OD but never a 4 speed with OD.

Re: Factory odd ball trucks
I'll have to find the nob because I scraped the tranny and t-case a year ago. but I still have the nob some were. Now I wont to find the nob to make sheer I'm not putting my foot in my mouth. I was 8 when my father took the stick shift out of the truck so my memory may not be right. If I can not find the nobb I'll ask my father or my uncle who bought the truck new.

Re: Factory odd ball trucks
In '85 the 4.3 V6 replaced the 250 I6 in light (>8600 GVW) trucks. It had a 4 barrel on it and went TBI in '87.
The 8600+ trucks still used the 292 I6 up until '87 as far as I know, but it never got EFI.

Re: Factory odd ball trucks
I have a slightly rare GMC 3500 SRW reg. cab 2wd that is loaded. Don't see a lot of 1tons like that. Big block too.

Re: Factory odd ball trucks
My Big 10 was a factory goof. It was supposed to be a 3/4 ton Camper Special. Instead the dealer received a SWB 1/2 ton with a 454.

Re: Factory odd ball trucks
No, it's the Chevy. Olds and Buick stopped making inline 6's back in the 60's. All the 70-s up inlines are Chevy derived (like the Pontiac OHC which are slightly modified Chevy's).
Integral head just means the intake is cast as part of the head. Same basic short block. Probably meant to save a few bucks but they are notorious for cracking. Came out in the late 70's on the 250, the 292 stayed with the original style head.

Re: Factory odd ball trucks
I picked up this 85 C20 Bonus Cab this past summer, basically a C30 crew cab without a back seat. The funny thing is that is has a/c, power windows & locks and the Silverado interior.
