It's got to be 4x4 for me. There really isn't very much that a 2wd truck can do better than a car.

4wd for me... a truck without a transfer case and front axle is just another car.

Seriously, the ability to shift the transfer case into 2/4 wheel hi or low and lock/unlock the hubs when you need it sold me on four wheel drive. You always have it when you need it.

Thats a tough one.. If its a 2wd, you gotta lower it, if its a 4x, you gotta lift it! I couldn't decide what I liked better, so I got one of each! That way I can have multiple personalities depending on my mood.. I got the air ride blazer for summer daily driving and cruisin, and I got the lifted crewcab for when I feel like more of a redneck! ..its a good work truck too.

I prefer 4x4, but have had a few 2x's. They really do suck though, I can barely make it up my driveway in winter.

This is funny. While I prefer 2wd, its so true that I can barely make it up my snow covered driveway! Who knows, maybe Ill convert to 4x4 some day. I just think that 2wd trucks look much cleaner.

But doesnt having a differential up front complicate things?

When you're not using 4WD very often you unlock the hubs, so nothing is turning in the front end anyway. I never thought anything was "complicated" about it. I've grown up around 4WDs, and it's a necessity living on a gravel road in the country.
2wds can make good DD's though- I'm looking at a '93 F150 300 I6 5 speed.

There's a little less room to work is all really. Some of the parts are different to, of course.

not nessacerally, I can change a pan gasket in my 4x4 without having to pull the motor, the 2wd I use to have way back would have inpossable to even think about doing that

I've only worked on one 2wd and it was transmission work, not engine work.

I guess now that I think how the motor sits in 2wd vs 4wd that makes sense, Tex.

I have seen a badass 4x4 stepper that i wish i had i'v allways wanted 1 to match my 2x4 stepper.

Thing is most of the show 4x4's never even see dust let alone dirt or even that real dirty word mud lol! so whats the point but the show n go lowered 2x4 get driven on the streets like it's suppose to be!

Like 'em both. My 2wd for cruising in the warm weather, and my 4wd so I can get out of the driveway when it snows. That's why I have one of each.... minimum!

I got em both. One day i wanna ride high the next is low and slow. 4x4's are needed in some places more and in others its just pointless to have a 4x4. They both look bad a$$ when they got some $$$$$$$$ in em.

4x4 reason? WINTER aka SNOW.Hated getting stuck in the two wheeler burban,and then snappin a u joint .Also i can do most of the work under it i can do with out jacking it up,and slide under the running boards....forget that on my 78 two wheeler boards, it wedged out my cell once didn't notice till i moved the truck hmmm what was that crunch?

I've had both. I like them both, but it depends on the application. There isn't a whole lot of need for a 4WD where I am at, but if a clean 73-75 Blazer came my way, it wouldn't matter if it was 2 or 4 wheel drive, I would need it either way.

I love all fords gm and even some jeeps.If its a daily driver i rather have a 2wd but a 4x4 is great off road or muding.

In my hotrod truck I say 2wd. I do not have much, if any call for 4x4, and when I do I have the sidekick. Better smoke show in a 2wd.

Not true. On the family farm we have gone without a 4x4 for decades. We get alot of snow but it tends to form drifts as it blows away, and it is not hard to get through. Despite the fact that we get some REALLY big drifts.
I'm not convinced that 4wd is essential up here, infact it seems like most people who own them don't need them (ie live in town or city), or have no idea how to drive them. I have seen people getting stuck with 4x4's in places where I have gone through with my 2wd.
IMHO if you can get stuck someplace with a 2 wheel drive then you had no buisness driving there in the first place....
Not to say the some 4x4's out there arn't REALLY cool, they just seem redundant to me most of the time.

I like 4x4's more than 2x4's. 4x4's are good for many things, like pulling out your friends in the winter time, good for getting to tough places, and they're fun to boot. The only major downside I've noticed is that the gear ratio's have to match for it to work properly.
