[QUOTE=special-K;3930167] What is it with all these people calling Custom Campers Camper Specials? If your name was Paul would you want people calling you Fred? It`s kinda funny and doesn`t bother me that much.I`ve had people say "up" but I knew they meant "down" before, too. It`s about not letting history take a bum steer when I correct people.GM called their trucks Camper Specials through`72.I like the name, that`s what they are, there are Camper Campers and these ain`t them, and I just believe a name is for ID...so call it what it is.It`s like saying you have a Cheyenne Deluxe,a Super Grande,a CSP (Custom Sport Pickup),a Custom Super...you get what I`m sayin`?Not meaning to come off as a jerk, but I`m into these trucks and I like to see info kept straight, that`s all.[/QUOTE

I can attest that Chevy started it in 73. Here's the badge on mine.

Re: It`s a Custom Camper,man.

I thought they were called Custom Tee Pees

hmmm...Custom-K,that has a nice ring to it.Thanks! How do we change our user names? Actually,if I knew how to do all that I`d still be Super-K.That`s how it started until I got a new`puter, went high-speed,and my e-mail went from Compuserve to Hotmail.I wanted to post the first day,got all hung up and just went with the cereal. After all, what`s in a name...DOH!!! I mean, names are very important. But,who cares if it`s dumb?Obviously not me...man.

Back in`73 I bought a`72 and never even knew what a Highlander was until around 1990.I just remember it had a plaid seat with parchment interior and all the other doo-dads included.I don`t even recall that it was a Custom Deluxe.I remembered it as a Holiday package for some warped reason.I do remember it had a 396.Said so right on the glovebox door . I can`t recall when I found out that was a 402.Always wondered why the badge said 400,though,since 396 was something to brag about back then.To my credit I only had it about a year before someone ran a light and t-boned me.Never got real aquainted with that one.

Re: It`s a Custom Camper,man.

history is important - one of the biggest problems is old ladies! They tend to call everything a truck - i have a jeep cherokee and i can remember about 50 times is was called a truck.. it is not a truck!

In High School my gym teacher/track coach called me Tony and I never corrected him.Man,have I changed .I knew who he meant and I`m sure he ended up knowing my real name after a few years of hearing everyone else call me Tim and seeing Tim printed on records I set.I just figured he liked me enough to give me his own name.Coach Rhodes was a hellish good man.

Correct, and as stated in the text of this thread posted in the 67-72 message board referring to those years,after`73 Camper Special is correct.I`ve had`em all including three Camper Specials:`78 Silverado K/30 SRW,`78 Scottsdale C/30 DRW (w/wood bed floor),and an`84 Silverado K/30.My`92SLE K3500 SRW that I factory ordered has the camper package, but they had stopped putting any kind of name on it by then...unfortunately.It also has the towing and off road package. You either have to see the equipment and know or see the option list.I have a thing for camper packaged vehicles.I even had a`69 CST K/10 Custom Camper...the only one I`ve ever seen.It was all original down to the 8.25 x 16.5 wheels. That was actually my first Custom Camper and I sold it because I wanted a 3/4t.I wish I had that one now.Had`69-only colors, too.
