Suprisingly they dont sound muffled from being under the seat, they actually sound pretty good. I went ahead and got the Ipod interface for it so I can hide my iPod in the glove compartment. Im hoping to add another amp and 2 12in subs soon where the gas tank was (did a 69 camaro gas tank conversion)
hmm, thats weird, my boxes are a little bigger, but even a 6X9 out of the box wouldnt fit under my seat.

Re: Audio System Pictures.

Did you try putting the speaker at an angle so the overall height is smaller? I do have to say though on mine you can feel the box a little bit under the seat but its not bad.

Re: Audio System Pictures.

to the thread starter, if this isn't a 100% show truck that is 100% factory original..
cut the dash and the doors..
the shaft radios are not ever coming back.. and the new style will not hurt resale,
if you cut the hole with a cut off wheel, it can always be welded back in,
as far as the doors you have options,,
1) dash speakers
2)custom autosound makes kick panels that 6.5" 2 way speakers,
if you do it right the door speakers can look factory, use'n 6.5" and not 6by9's
you'll get better sound out of the 6.5's anyways..
even the older buyers have got used to the newer radios and i pods in their daily driver cars,
and most(not all) will want to be able to play their tunes in their new toy,
trust me the radio in the glove box is a total p.i.t.a.
easy to install. pain to use..
if you are totally against cutting the dash,
go yardsale'n get a cobra c/b with a big housing..
not the later ones that are small.
gut it, and install the radio in it.., it'll have the brackets to hang it under the dash..
or find a dead under dash 8 track player and do the same..
with that most are big enough that you can hinge the faceplate of the 8 track player after you guy it. to hide the new radio from pry'n eyes..
good luck..
the kickpanels and dash speakers might be all YOU need..
and that = no cutting..
the c/b or 8track case = no dash cutting..
I don't have this issue as mine was already cut..
but like most I like MY music and MY music isn't on the radio much..(man that makes you feel old)
so a new style radio would go in..
if it wasn't cut I might have done the c/b or 8track route..
the doors can look factory.. and if not hacked.. only add to the truck..
again you can save the piece cut out and weld it back in..
if you move the tank there is more options..
good luck..
sounds like for you the old dead c/b or 8track to gut is your best bet..
the kick panels are not much..but I'd get the ones with the pioneer speaker over their house brand..
have fun.. good luck..

Im starting the 2-12" sub box tomorrow but here is what I have so far:
Sorry for everything being dirty in the pics Im still building!!!
I smoothed my dash so I had to put my stereo some where else:

I mounted everything in my LMC center console. I have my old JVC deck in there right now but my new Alpine will be in soon.

Here is inside- still have a little more work to do: My JVC and MY Alpine both have remotes so it easy to control going down the road. You can see the remote velcro'd between the cup holders.

Re: Audio System Pictures.

I ended up doing some hacking of my interior just a little bit to do my stereo system. Installed a CD/MP3 deck in the dash, 5 1/4" speakers in the kickpanels, 6 1/2" speakers behind the seats, (2) 10" subwoofers in a custom ported box behind my seats, with a 400W 4-channel amp under one seat powering my (4) speakers and (6) tweeters, and a 400W mono channel amp under the other seat powering my (2) subwoofers. Sounds and pounds VERY nicely!!!

I posted some pics somewhere, let me see if I can find some. The seats are from a 1964 GTO. Im completely done with that truck. I have already started a new project;

Re: Audio System Pictures.

I can't seem to get the 6x9's with the boxes to fit under the seat, even at an angle like you had. I put in carpet and some heat shields, and looks like I am a couple inches off, and seems like it is high centered.

Going to have to figure out something else for the time being, at least I got the 6x9's for free. =/

Re: Audio System Pictures.

Thats might be what's causing it to not fit. I have nothing under my box and it just fits. Like I said, the box actually fits better closer to the back. One thing you could try is mounting them pointing straight up under the seat but I don't know how it will sound.

Re: Audio System Pictures.

ive read some bad reviews about Custom Autosound... but i bought my truck with their head unit in it and have had any problems... i even picked up the kickpanels they have- they had the best price i could find and they work great!
Custom Autosound has been around for over 30 years so i'm sure one or two bad reviews isnt unresaonable...
