Audio System Pictures.

Was wondering what you guys have done for audio systems in your trucks? My dash is uncut and I would like to leave it that way. Possibly get a radio that looks like the original but has an IPOD hook up etc.....

I think I have the stereo picked out already.

Was wondering what I can do for speakers. I dont want to cut my doors either. Do you guys have a speaker in the dash? Maybe a box with 6x9's under the seat?

Photos and any help would be great! How does it sound?

Dont need anything over the top, I just dont have a stereo at all right now.

Re: Audio System Pictures.

I put speakers under the seat. They sounded awful. I put then in the doors. I also cut my dash.

Re: Audio System Pictures.

I was really not wanting to cut my dash or doors!

Thinking about a stereo something like this http://www.brotherstrucks.com/prodin...number=CS06300

Also anyone buy kick panels? They kinda look like they might get in the way.

I'm thinking of this one.

My dash is not cut either. Right now I have a regular DIN temporarily installed under the seat.

Re: Audio System Pictures.

To the best of my knowledge, there are only 2 companies left that make the shaft style of radios for these old trucks, Custom Autosound and Retrosound. Do a Google search for reviews on both of them from some other forums. Some are not so favorable.
Another option is to have an original radio converted to modern electronics which has it's drawbacks as well, not to mention the price.

Re: Audio System Pictures.

Maybe a newer head unit under the seat might not be a bad idea, with a remote and a Ipod cable ran between the top and bottom of the seat.

More worried about speaker locations and sizes.

Re: Audio System Pictures.

The problem with the Custom Autsound is they are crap. I would do a remote with Ipod like Vandals909 suggested

Re: Audio System Pictures.

Dual Audio makes a cheap basic unit that is post mounted and has an MP3 player input. Installed one in my 86 with some 3 1/2" speakers found in the junk yard in a 91 suburban. It's not high end sound but its good enough given all the other noises my truck makes.

Re: Audio System Pictures.

For mounting a radio you can use a universal kit that mounts under the dash like this.
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=265-926
For the speakers nothing really beats kick panels. No cutting and they look good and sound good.

On a side note I have kicked around the idea of finding someone in the area and installing a system of there liking, I see you're in So CAL, and doing a nice write up for the forums. You supply the mats and an 18 pack. I'll take care of the rest. Shoot me a PM if your interested.

What year truck are we talking about here? My 78 and 98 both have door cutouts from the factory and every dash I've ever seen has a cutout for a deck. Either way, I'd suggest kick panels with components in the front and if you really want rear fill then maybe some 6x9's behind the seat in boxes.

Re: Audio System Pictures.

I just got done with mine, no pics yet though. The deck is in the glovebox in a simple box I made out of some scrap plywood. Has an iPod wire running out the corner. I installed an amp on the middle of the trans hump, 6x9 in boxes that will either be in the corners or flat behind the seat which will be determined once I put the seat back in. Also made some pods to mount 5.25" to the kickpanel, fabbed some tweeter holders out of stainless and mounted to the bottom of the dash. Sounds a lot better then the cheap set of Radio Shack speakers I had under the seat.

Looks stock, but has the benefity of a touch screen control. Nobody is the wiser when they look into the cab when the system is stored...

Re: Audio System Pictures.

Actually you can run a 6x9 under the seat, I got 2 jensens under mine aimed toward the front and they fit perfect. You do have to put them at a slight angle to get them to fit.

Re: Audio System Pictures.

I know these aren't the best pics in the world but this is my setup and the 6x9s you were askin about. Its a sony deck going to a 208W old school amp and 2 6x9 jensen speakers under the seat. Suprisingly they dont sound muffled from being under the seat, they actually sound pretty good. I went ahead and got the Ipod interface for it so I can hide my iPod in the glove compartment. Im hoping to add another amp and 2 12in subs soon where the gas tank was (did a 69 camaro gas tank conversion)

Like the pouches (seriously). Are you going to add the new multicam when it's released (weak attempt at humor).

Re: Audio System Pictures.

I ended up with the Retrosound, fed into a Polk Pa200.4amp, into a pair of Polk mm691 speakers.Running of my mp3 player and just sitting in the garage it sound's pretty dam good. Now this was just hooked up to the battery as I don't have the engine in it yet.
