Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
Congrats on striking the deal, looks like a great truck. I know I wouldn't have pulled a 6 out of mine if it had one, I've always had a soft spot for the old inline 6 engines. Plus as someone mentioned above, there is something very vintage and cool about them when you get some sweet old performance parts on 'em. I too will be awaitng more pics.

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
That's a nice truck at a sweet deal. I hope you get it in the am. Since it is a C20 and a Camper Special I would guess that it has a 292.

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
I know that $2K isn't a LOT of money, but we'd feel it right now for sure. We travel a LOT around the holidays to visit both of our families.

Sometimes it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
I guess I must be in the minority. My wife could care less what I drag home; as long as it has 4 wheels or 4 legs she's ok.
Hope you can charm her into letting you get it. Maybe tell her you need the truck to haul materials-- for when you renovate the kitchen for her. Last edited by gulffishin; 09-30-2010 at 05:32 PM. |

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
Those are the words of a wise man right there, and the ones I have tried to live by. Fortunately I have a wife who digs the old cars and trucks, so she even encourages my obsessions (one of the biggest reasons I put a ring on her finger). She just wants me to finish the projects I have before collecting more. My advice would be to try and strike an agreement with her, even like the guy before said; your early Christmas present for the next few years. Just make sure that whatever agreement you come to that you hold up your own end of the deal, or she will resent you and the truck for it. If you decide to go the route of asking for forgiveness, be prepaired to go way out of your way to acheive forgiveness (diamonds help...). good luck on the home front, and please keep us posted on the progress.

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
Well, I passed up the old truck. Its a nice truck, but after talking with my wife about it, I found out her reasoning. I already have the '59 and '83 pickups. The whole family(wife + 2 kids) can't go anywhere together in them. She was wanting to save that $2K so she could give me a big chunk of cash for my 30th birthday so I can go buy the '64-'67 Chevelle that I have wanted FOREVER! She wanted to give me $5,000 to $7,500 so I can go buy the project that I truely want. So, while the '66 was very, very apealing, she is correct(like always) that I would be happier getting my chevelle project and keeping the two trucks that I already have. The '59 will be driving in the next year(lacks wiring, brake plumbing, paint and interior). I have most of the parts and just need to put her together.

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
I have done this to my wife before too! I bought my '62 Chevy II project. I loved that car! I always wanted one! I bought it and she came home from work and my '62 was sitting in the garage and I was stripping it down and taking it all apart. She hated that car from day one until the day that I sold it about a year and a half ago. She is a good sport but im not going to suprise her anymore! plus, as it turns out, she had plans to buy me a car that I want much, much more!

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
Good for you, always nice to be enthusiastic but tempered with reality. Too bad the truck didn't work out, but nothing's better than a supportive partner that looks out for your best interest.
