Exactly. Though KS and OK are very close, you still have to understand why this truck was on craigslist "for free" and not for sale. I would have given up to $200 for it, but the price I paid was better than that, and it has served its purpose and we had some fun along the way.

I'm not even sure what's special about the manual saginaw transmission in it, but my body tech, who also is a dirt stock car racer, swears those things are gold to the people in his racing circle, so it will get pulled after the cab is cut off.

I am almost in need of a bigger parts room for all this stuff. Besides the extra hood, fender, wheel house, 2 radiator supports and a few other large odds and ends that I keep outside, everything is crammed in to this poor 10x10 room at my shop. Maybe I should go ahead with my plan of having two walls nothing but solid shelves and one wall nothing but peg board.

You know, if I had known I'd end up with this much stuff, I would have planned it better. But you know it goes when you just toss stuff in as you go, never really meaning to pile up that much stuff.

lol i dont hang things level either, heck i dont hang things at all, pile it in a corner and then cry when what your need is on the bottom of everything and you have to move everything again. i kill so much space that way too

i really wish i could get a free truck like that! Id rock it until it fell apart. Anyone in cali want to give me their unwanted eyesore?

i do agree about letting some die. sometimes its just not worth your time and money to get something like that out and about.

Re: Free truck and a sawzall

We're going to make a trailer out of the frame/bed on my 74 actually. The tailgate actually opens and closes on it, the one on the 73 in this thread was stuck shut due to rust, damage and the dirt/shrubs that had solidified/grown.

We're going to use the 8' trailer to start piling our scrap metal in at the body shop, then haul it off ourselves. My scrap guy is gonna get upset, but in todays economy we need ever $$ we can get.

Not sure why I've kept all those instrument clusters and bezels, I just have a fetish for them I guess. I have bought two tach clusters, the rest I have acquired from trucks I've bought and scrapped or as cheap junkyard buys. When my suburban buddy has a fresh buy that has an electronic speedo in it, I go buy those for $10 as well. I might need one some day.

Re: Free truck and a sawzall

And just about as quick as it came in, it's on its way out. Will get just a few more things in the bed and haul it off for some $$$$.
Got the front half of the cab shoved off in a corner of the shop, will finish stripping it down for the wiring, duct work, pedals and cut the firewall out of it and then haul it off as well.

OMG you're killing a perfectly good money sponge! I would junk every one I could get for free with the way scrap prices are! Of course, up in our area, they are 95% already junk when we tear them down to rebuild them.

Weighed in about 3700 lbs, got $275 out of it. Can't wait to see what the loaded down suburban will bring when it goes across the scales.

Re: Free truck and a sawzall

Heck yeah! We took in some last week and it weighed 5100lbs. I couldn't believe it when the check said $341.50. This spring we took in a burb and it brought $42. I guess this trip made up for it a little bit.

Re: Free truck and a sawzall

I cut up perfect rust free trucks all the time, however if someone needs something speak up. i think a lot of fustration is because someone else wants to find free parts for there project and if you got it for free you should pay it forward. i agree but it did cost money get it home, people around here in the sacramento area think they should get a perfect paint color matching perfectlly replacement front fender for 5.00. I don't even try to sell anything anymore its pointless to ask 200.00 on a set of 1960-66 suburban doors that are rust free because the guy who comes to buy them says all i could get out of my atm is 40.00. I used to save and sell alot of parts but the rude nature of people who buy used stuff is not someone who needs the deal. I gave a perfect 1973 chevy factory chrome grill to a high schooler who needed one. someone at a swap meet after looking at the grill for 90.00 offered 10.00. i would rather give it away than give in to the rude loser who offered 10.00. i have said it before ill say it again. if there's money in it i would happily run rust free parts, trucks, ect to the rustbelt, I do not want to get rich, i just want to walk out of the deal with all my expences covered plus a few bucks. even if someone met me half way that would work too pm me if a group of you want me to run out there with some California clean parts, ill even hire someone to pull parts at pick n pull if i have enough interest.
