It's just a preference for me. It's part of what makes a 67 a 67.

Unless the whole dash has been changed, you can still pick a 67 cab from all the other years. I would guess some of the trucks have had the marker lights filled and appear to be big window 67s...

Add another one to the list! I spent alot of money making this Panoramic rust free, and it is the original cab. Custom option.

Re: '67 Panoramic #?

We may end up with over 167 big windows in this thread!
I know it could be as much as in the 10s of thousands. My wild stab guesstimate might be something like at least maybe perhaps 10% or more or less or not.

Re: '67 Panoramic #?

Here are some pics of ours, but they are already in the count I think. 2 of them have been sitting since the early 70 's and the other for a long time. But now they are in the hands of about 4 board members.

I've had two '67's both bbw....one short wide and one long wide. Both customs. Wish I'd never sold the shorty. Regret it everyday.

It wasn't Harley Earl. Harry Bentley Bradley is the still-living lead designer of these trucks.

In an interview that he did with one of the truck rags (Custom Classic Trucks or Classic Trucks), he indicated that GM wanted a "more masculine" look and that resulted in the changes for the '69-72's. The small back window was along the limousine line of thinking, but remained a feature of the heavier trucks (C-40 and up). However, even the Panoramic rear window and the CST packages could be had on a C-60. There's a C-60 dump truck in my area, used for hauling asphalt. It's turquoise and white 2-tone, with all of the bright work and badging for a CST.

The original '67-68 front cap was deemed to be too feminine, according to the article and the GM brass. If you know your '67-era trucks, you'll remember that Dodge, Ford, Jeep and International were all possessed of an upright grille appearance. If the sales numbers were any indication to GM brass and bean counters, that would have been a reason. Was it THE reason? Look on the roads....how many of the other four brands do you see? These trucks are popular for a reason. I don't see that the other four are considered to be an icon in the way these are. Dodge trucks were crude. Sure, they had some packages that were fluff, but that's it. Jeeps were rugged. International had some die-hard fans and were better looking in that era, but still an odd-ball in the truck world. The Chevy and GMC trucks were first with comfort amenities in a package that appealed to more and more people and helped move trucks into the commuter/weekend-hauler venue.

Re: '67 Panoramic #?

A guy stopped by with a '67 GMC SWB Fenderside pro-street w/502 power.I suspect it was a pretty basic truck originally. He said it had a straight 6 and the grille was painted originally.

Re: '67 Panoramic #?

I don't think the panoramic rear window for '67 is all that rare... My dad was a painter at a Chevy dealer in the 60's and he said that by the spring of '67 almost all the trucks they got in new had the big back window (before the '68's came out), so it seems that maybe the factory started to phase them out about mid year. From what I see, I would guess maybe a 70/30 split on small to big ratio not including big trucks...

Re: '67 Panoramic #?

Custom and CST were Chevy trim levels. The panoramic window was a separate option.most Customs and CSTs had a good amount of options. Not many would order a trimmed truck w/o adding other upgrades.

I've owned one of each. My 67 Crewcab is a factory small back window and I purchased a longbed 3/4T CST in Albuquerque that was a big back window. The cst also had a wood bed floor, a 283/TH400, PB, PS and buddy buckets, .

I used to have a 67 BBW cab I sold with a 4x4 project, and I had a good friend that had a SBW 67 SWB. I loved that truck! Pearl white with a lot of billet and a built 383. We were in high school, so it was one of the nicest old trucks around.
