'67 Panoramic #?

After looking at a thread on the purchase of a very nice original big window '67 where this question was asked,I wonder if a number of big windows produced is even known.Someone mentioned they heard the number was (IIRC) 167 and wasn't sure how accurate that was.Others asked in that thread and I thought a new thread was in order. Is there such info out there?I know there are no numbers on this option and that, but this is an actual body panel difference and maybe that stat is out there somewhere. We'll probably never know the true number of Chevy "and" GMCs produced.I'm sure it's way more than 167.
If nothing else,it's something to think about.

Re: '67 Panoramic #?

You heard a total of 167 big window 67 cabs? That can't be right, I have had at least 3, so I figure there has to be tons more than 167.

Re: '67 Panoramic #?

I would say that number is alot higher. I have one and have seen a couple posted on the board recently. That brings us up to 6 in 2 replies. I also have a couple of glovebox doors with that option, but not sure where the trucks are...

Rare, you mean like the "rare three door" option , sorry couldn't resist.

Re: '67 Panoramic #?

Most of the 67 trucks around here had the optional bg window, I would think the small window would be actually more rare, sense at that time it should have been somewhat less desirable. I mean why chose limited visablity when you can actually see blindspots etc.?

Re: '67 Panoramic #?

About 99% of the '67 trucks I have seen are the small back window trucks.
I would call the bbw 67's rare.

Re: '67 Panoramic #?

167 is way off,for sure. But,the majority of '67s were definitely small windows. Most CST/Super Customs had the panoramic and those that didn't are rare. The rest were generally small glass with the exception being large.Going from '67 to '72 the number of higher optioned trucks multiplied in a major way.Basic trucks were the norm in '67.Figure in years before, which '67s are the last link, most trucks had small glass and less options. To look at it as ,"why would buyers choose less visibility?", is from today's point of view.Back then it was just the way it was and more visibility was a choice.I think it was more for style than visibilty. That's what mirrors are for.

Hey Rene, three door Suburbans are rare...up to '67 and from '73 on.

Tim ,,I can shed some light on the small window option and why many did not get it.. It cost more and many thought why does one need it ,,plus the hunters liked the room to mount gun racks up in them ,,and in my neck of the woods that is the way it was.

I bought a brand new 65 short box and ordered it with all the chrome and big back window and every thing that came with it in that year except a overdrive.and it did have the 283 engine.
You know what was said to me when I drove it to work that first day to the sawmill where I worked ?

Couple guys said why didnt you buy a truck ? this thing is to pretty to use and therefore useless to be a truck. The few guys who did like it was Jack who just bought a new 442 and a couple others ..but most thought extras like big back windows and chrome was a waste of money to put down on a truck..

One more thing Tim,,a guy in town not from me bought the exact same truck as mine almost ,,but with out the big back window and one day we was at safeway and he came over to talk about our trucks and the first thing he said was why did I think i needed the big back window ..go figure I guess..LOL

Re: '67 Panoramic #?

Larry,I have a question for you.so,why did you buy a truck with a big back window, anyway? I think you were a visionary and knew they-d all be that way in another 4 years. You wanted style "and" when that coastal Oregon sun was shinin' you wanted all you could get.Hey,not everybody trashes a truck by working out of them. Some folks take care of their stuff.
What you describe was the general take on trucks back then, though. But,obviously GM saw the market for the options or they would have never been offered.

Re: '67 Panoramic #?

im not saying this becauce i have one but i have sat in my truck and adjusted the mirrors to me and i had no blind spots i found a car behind me and made sure i couls see it through my side mirror and my rear view mirror and yes the bbw probably are rare but think about it thai way that is the last time chevy gmc made a small window for there 1/2ton to 1 ton models but if i was alive in 67 72 i would have bought a 67 cst withall the options except for the rv juinor mirrors but with a small window

its funny that everyone dogs it every time gm came out with a new body style the small windows got bigger in the 30 s and 40s they were tiny and then 67 it was perfect just big enough to see and just small enough to be considered a smalll window

Maybe this will help you ..LOL I and many others in 1965 were making wages of $2.37 @ hour so when the Chevrolet dealership said the Big window was another say $54 ( not real sure on that figure ) it was hard to say ,,Yes! I want it ..

The reason I bought the full window is because I thought like Tim mentioned as it was the coming of age thing and what I bought for a Pickup (thats what most called them back then Pickups...) with chrome and custom cab and all was ,,well "just cool " before them discription words were invented ,,

any thing you do not understand about these threads ,,I am sure I am not the only one on here that from that era to explain things even better than I ..thanks for asking though ,, gp Larry

Re: '67 Panoramic #?

Big windows were usually a deluxe appointment. Some people just wanted to get all that they could. You older guys will recall the list of "Dealer Installed Item" on the window stickers. I have a brother-in-law, whose dad bought a new Ford in '55. It was the plain-jane version...virtually no side trim. Still, it had a V8, a radio and overdrive. His dad had it outfitted with all of the chrome trim that the Fairlane's had on 'em from the factory. Nephew still has the car and he's retiring at the end of the year. Here's a one-owner '67 that belongs to a guy I work with. He just had the 283 rebuilt last spring and added power steering from a '70. He's had it repainted, twice, with the last paint job costing more than he paid for the truck when it was new.

Re: '67 Panoramic #?

I can add to the big back window '67 total. I've had 3 of them, 2 had CST trim and 1 looked like the others, but did not have the CST badge on the door, etc. I'm not sure if the third truck had been repainted and the badges removed or if there was another trim level during the 1967 model year where the bbw option could still be ordered.

I think the bbw option makes the truck look better overall. Evidently, someone in a position of power within Chevrolet agreed with me, as everything obviously went to the bbw format for 1968 and on.

Look here ,,67 for sale and no mention of a big back window..

So ,I guess not every body sees a 67 with a big back window as being a selling item in advertising it for sale ..

Nope! You have two choices, scrap it or sell it to me for 199 bucks. You know, it will cost me a lot of gas money to come and get it...

Its mysteries like this that make this era of vehicles so interesting.

I wonder how many have had a newer cab swapped in over the years. Theres probably more big back windows now due to this?
