Re: Project 82

visit to the machine shop today and were talking over prices.
for the 383 build going to be an expensive build thats for sure.
so gotta save up some more of the frog skins
i just want to build it right the first time if im going to build a motor.
i think ill be happy with a 383 stroker

but then again im wondering if i shouldnt build something small first.
finding running engines here loacly things are high here

Re: Project 82

I don't know about up there, but my machine shop does stock rebuilt 350s for 800-900$ and he will add a bigger cam and that kind of thing for a bit more scrilla.

I've never had a stroker, just built 350s,and I've always been happy with them.

Re: Project 82

Ive also for now giving thought to a mild 350.
Vortec heads cam and some good pistons.
The guy at the shop said he'd work with me.

Do little bit here and there on the 383 build.

I could get a motor and get it running
And do a better build later on also.

Re: Project 82

You could do that, build your 383 later, then sell the 350 and recoup some money. Sounds like a winner

Re: Project 82

Yeah I'll figure something out the interior of the 82.
Needs some attention seat dash is cracking badly.
Headliner is falling down vent window is busted.
Windshield is cracked I'm also trying to think.
Of colors to paint it yellow or black.
Or that blue like what's on the zr1 vetts

Re: Project 82

Yellow would be different, but black always looks good. I think s metallic charcoal grey would be sweet.

Re: Project 82

Yes the charcoal metallic is nice black is always snazzy.
When its clean I'm previous owner of two black z71s.
They were Sharp when they were clean.

I'll prob stay with the tan interior on the 82

Re: Project 82

Trust me I know about that all too well. I've put many a motor and transmission in on the dirt, with a piece of plywood to roll around on. Atleast the weather is gettin nice, that helps. Last december I put a motor in a k5 blazer, built it on my back porch and installed it in 30 degree weather lol

Re: Project 82

Ok well I've got a 350 sb I've been keeping.
It's short blocked and the bore needs to be checked.
It's .40 over ran good when pulled think its got an rv cam.
it might have to go 60 over I'm not sure.

The heads that were on it I fargot casting#.
But they are crackprone heads from what I found.
I'm thinking a set of Vortecs that can handle a good cam.

And saving the 383 build for a later date.
If i used the 350 and did a mild build.
I have sonic money to do other things.
Like interior work and such.

Re: Project 82

Sounds good, on my 70's motor build I went with a standard bore 350 4 bolt main, flat tops, a summit 1103 cam, shaved 441 heads with 2.02 valves, edelbrock performer intake, and a holley double pumper. Id have to say it has somewhere in the neighborhoodof 325-350hp. It pulls rel good at about 3 grand up to about 6 grand lol

Re: Project 82

I believe their cams are crane. I don't know, but I have dogged the hell out of my motor built with budget parts, and haven't had a problem.

Go with a good cam and heads, and it'll have some balls.
