Re: I Hate Stupid People!

I've gotten to the point where I don't care anymore. I've got so many dings and dents that I'll never get a nice paint job for a DD.

We were at Home Depot loading some stuff. I asked my 12 year old to hold the cart while I unloaded it - and - naturally he didn't.

Fully loaded cart rolled downhill and smashed into the side of a brand new red Duramax pickup all in "slow motion". It was a really nice truck (before this happened) and my heart just sank. I thought about taking off for about a nanosecond, but ended up leaving a detailed note, with all my contact info, on the windshield.

The couple was walking out as we were leaving, so I pulled back around and talked to them in person, explaining the situation and that I would take care of it.

In the end, I paid out of pocket to make sure they were fixed up and satisfied (they are, as far as I know), but my point in posting this is that I was ashamed at how fast my mind went to "not doing the right thing".

It was one of my more expensive Home Depot trips, if you know what I mean...

Expensive, yet priceless and invaluable----because now your son learned to do the right thing. i'm not talking about holding on to the cart if your dad tells you to. i'm talking about taking responsiblity for (mis)actions and doing the right thing. This is more than i can say about some of the schmoes that surround me and i wonder (perhaps too boldly) about their relationships with their parents.

i disagree; This was the best trip to home depot you ever made.

Re: I Hate Stupid People!

Back when I had my old '77 Lincoln with a custom flame job, I would always try to park away from people and I made a HUGE mistake of driving it so school daily. It got a ton of scratches and some asshole backed into it and left a huge scrape on the driver's side fender. I was never so pissed off before in my entire life.

Now, with my truck, it's going to have a rattle can job, so if it gets a scratch or something, all I gotta do is paint over it like nothing happened.

So did you split the bill with your son. Mine would have gotten docked half his allowance every week until his half was covered to teach him that when it's time to pay attention, he might wanna pay attention!

But I do applaud you for being honest about it, and setting that example for your son.

As for getting dings in parking lots, I just accept it and move on. That's why i gave up having "pretty" vehicles a long time ago. It doesn't have to be "pretty" to work right, or even to be cool. I can take the best parking place in the lot with my lifted 4x4 burb and no-one will dare park next to it.

I do however respect others' rides. And if they wanna park in the south 40 and walk a mile, more power to them. Just don't be eating up two spaces close to the door.

As for Home Depot having cameras, I wouldn't count on their help. My boss had all the tools taken out of his truck a while back. He asked the manager to see the cameras, and the manager would not review them. He said he'd spend all his time in court if he reviewed the tape over every theft and door ding. Since then, my boss shops at Lowes every chance he gets.

Re: I Hate Stupid People!

I have an '86.. I parked in the spot opposite of a handicap spop for maybe 3 minutes, older lady pulls into the handicap spot, hits the aluminum pole, knocking it into my truck!

Re: I Hate Stupid People!

What would really be nice if the big box stores would understand that most people bring a truck to their stores. They really won't fit in a parking place sized for a Honda Civic. That's why my truck got dinged. The man that hit it said he thought he had at least another 3" to go.

I always avoid handicap spots for that reason.

(I have nothing against old folks, or people who are handicapped, though)
