Re: Anybody remember these?

Pink Cadillac, Highway 100, just outside my hometown of Centerville, TN. Many fond memories from high school of $5/carload nights. I graduated from high school in 1998, for the record. The Drive-In is still operating, but I haven't been in a couple years.

Re: Anybody remember these?

I remember going to see "Star Wars, A New Hope" when I was young. My dad had a rain shield that he would rig across the windshield when it was raining (common thing in Washington). There is still one out in Oak Harbor, on Whidbey Island. My sons went to it this summer.

Re: Anybody remember these?

There is at least one in the Reno/Sparks area. I've been to one a couple times (and have heard of a second one), last time was to watch the most recent "Pirates" movie. Always fun to go to the drive in. Never took pickures though.

Re: Anybody remember these?

All I can say is, use 'em or lose 'em. If you don't promote your local drive in, it will become prime real estate for something like a Wal-Mart. My local drive in as a kid is now a plaza area with a Super Wal-Mart. And we've lost two within an hour of my house in the past 2 years.

We did however organize a car show/drive in movie theater for this past weekend using one of those giant inflatable movie screens at my wife's school. They transmitted the audio through an FM transmitter into your car stereo. It was an awesome event.

Re: Anybody remember these?

We have the 49er Drive in here in Valparaiso, Indiana. It's still going strong.
Right now, it is closed for the winter.
During warm weather it is a great place to take the family.

The Van Buren Drive-In will never die The back of the screen that faces the street was recently repainted with a beautiful mural depicting the areas history. On the weekends during the day it is a swapmeet where people peddle junk (non-car related stuff)

Hey LeddZepp according to www.drive-ins.com there are 2 drive ins in Riverside, California. The Van Buren as you mentioned. http://www.vanburendrivein.com/#/movies/ and the Rubidoux http://www.rubidouxdrivein.com/#/movies/. They both sound like some pretty neat places with a lot of history with the community.

First 3 photos the Van Buren. I couldn't down load in pics of the Rubidoux.

Thanks Keith for the photos of the Van Buren, I lost my virginity there about 9 or 10 times, and probably 3 or 4 times at the Rubidoux, well I'm going to go cry again.

Re: Anybody remember these?

We still have the Glendale 9 drive in, have not been there for a while though.

Little story,

When I was 8 or 9 years old, I was at the Glendale 9 with my family. We were in the exact truck that I am building now. The movie ( i believe) was Herbie rides again! All three of us kids were sitting on the tailgate. All of a sudden my dad grabs us, and pulls us into the truck bed. Shortly there after, a station wagon backed into us. I remember seeing the corner of the tailgate dissappear into the tailgate on the wagon. I was terrified, and can still see it clearly today. My dad was his cool calm self, had a conversation with the other guy, and resumed watching the movie. Oh the memories!

Lived in Saint Joseph Missouri .All 3 of the drive ins are gone . There was the Belt , Skylark and Cowtown .

Skeeters were so bad at the Cowtown that they gave you a coil that you lit to repel them .

Re: Anybody remember these?

We still have the Hi Way Drive in in Santa Maria, right off the 101 - you can see the screen from the highway when something's on. They have swap meets on Sundays. I think San Luis Obispo still has one as well.

Re: Anybody remember these?

When I was bout 4 or 5 my dad worked at this drive-in in my hometown of Weatherford, Tx, bout 20 miles west of Ft. Worth. Sadly it caught fire and shortly before I moved away they leveled everything. I think all that was left was the ticket booth.

Re: Anybody remember these?

Keith have you checked the one in Granbury? We used to go there probly 2 or 3 times a month for a while. It was hit and taken out by a tornado but they rebuilt and opened it back up. Not sure if its still open or not but I haven't heard anything of it being closed again.

There are still several drive ins still in operation in the North Texas area. I have been wanting to go to one so badly. The closest one is about an hour and half drive. I guess it's not too bad of a drive to make some "new" memories with the girlfriend and her daughter. By the way it is in Ennis, Texas.

Re: Anybody remember these?

Luckily I happened to move to a place that still has one and is PACKED every weekend! And this is the first one I've been to that has 2 screens and shows 2 movies at a time, and 2 movies on one screen (one after the other obviously) a night! Thats 4 different movies a night yall! Its by far the coolest drive-in I've ever been to!

The 2nd pic aint the best one but you can see one screen on the far right, and the other in the back.

the one you are refering too was the Y&W on broadway. It has been gone quite a while. Had the Dunes theater in Miller but it has been gone a long time.

The 49er is a good one, clean and maintained and first rate movies. It is very family oriented. I have seen people in trucks with a couch in them. Chairs, etc.
I took the grand kids there with small bean bag chairs, parked with the bed facing the screen. Kids loved it.
