Re: Anybody remember these?

Our local drive-in's have been closed for some time. But we have a group here in town that puts on a smaller version in the mall parking lot. Brings back old memories.

Re: Anybody remember these?

Yes I have memories of my mom taking me to the drive in to watch Jaws and the loud scary music coming over the speaker left me with scares. LOL. I think I was like 6.

We still have one right down the street from my house. I went there a few months ago. As far as I know, it is one of the only ones left in So Cal.

Re: Anybody remember these?

The first time I went to the drive in I was probably 10 or 11. My sister took me to see Bonnie & Clyde. Of course as I got into high school and beyond, I spent a fair amount of time at the Skyview Drive-In in Manhattan, KS. I won't repeat the stories but rest assured they involved a plenty of girls and beer!
There are still two Drive-In Theatres operating in Greater Kansas City. Talked all summer about going this year, but never made it.

Re: Anybody remember these?

There were 2 local ones here in Denton. Both are closed down. One of them is actually very close to where my girlfriend lives and we have poked around it a few times. The only thing left are the concession stand and the speaker poles in the lot. There was a play ground in front of the big screen so the parents could keep an eye on the little ones.

There are still several drive ins still in operation in the North Texas area. I have been wanting to go to one so badly. The closest one is about an hour and half drive. I guess it's not too bad of a drive to make some "new" memories with the girlfriend and her daughter. By the way it is in Ennis, Texas.

It appears that the are only 20? Drive ins in operation in California today. There were over 250 at one point in time.

Re: Anybody remember these?

Seeing pics those old closed down Drive-In signs is almost as sad as seeing pics of old closed down Drag Strip signs

Closest Drive-In is 10 hours away in Enderby British Columbia, but we try and hit one somewhere every year.

Just put yer zip in and go.

So make sure you take a blanket. It's starting to get cool.

I remember the drive inns from when I were young.Had a few good times when I was a teen/young adult and fond memories of when I was a wee one. When we were kids we went in our PJ's so they could carry us in and put us right in bed.

Re: Anybody remember these?

There is still one hold-out down in Ogden, Utah. I think it's still running, anyway. Back in the mid-70's, we hung out with these girls and their apartment faced one of the screens at the Redwood drive in in Salt Lake. They had the radio option, so we just had to tune their radio to the proper freq and watch the show.

Re: Anybody remember these?

Sadly the first pic in post #2 is the former drive in just west of Weatherford. As fate would have it, I was traveling the interstate one day last week and saw that the fence and ticket booth were gone. I could see a skytrack forklift extended to the top of the screen from behind. I pulled over to get a better look, and a couple minutes later watched in sadness, as the screen went over forward to the ground in one whole piece. Talk about strange timing.
The guys had cut the legs while the skytrack held it. The whole parking lot has been leveled, and on my way home this afternoon I could see flags outlining what looks like a building pad. Talk about almost crying.
Lots of fond memories of my dating years thirty years ago, and fresher memories of taking the kids to see a movie at that drive-in.
And the people call it "progress".

This was from this past Saturday night. The photo was taken after the movie was over because you couldn't get any good ones in the dark. But it was a great time!
