I went with a Millermatic 211 myself. The reasons are that it can use 115 or 220v. Some of the light gauge auto body stuff is easier with 115v. And if you need to haul it to a friends house, you are guaranteed to find a place to plug it in. For building car trailers, welding on axles, or building frames and chassis the 220v is best. The Millermatic 211’s wire and voltage settings can be adjusted manually or it also has some auto set feature that lets you set the wire size and gauge of the work you are welding. Then the machine automatically adjusts voltage and wire speed for you. I have no use for the auto feature but this would be handy for a beginner or for teaching your Kids to weld. The Machine can use a Spool gun for Aluminum welding as well. Mine was purchased from http://store.cyberweld.com They have free shipping

Check out what Eastwood has to offer. They have a 110 and 220v welder in their house brand. They are infinitely adjustable and the 220v comes with a free spool gun for aluminum. Not a bad price either.
