Hi, my name is Gene....(sobs loudly) and i'm a cutter bwahhh booo hooooooo (sobbing like a little girl now) I tried to resist the urge to put that nice state of the art Sony in dash cd player, and I tried and tried to talk myself into making a box fo it and saving my pristine one of a kind very rare one of only 5 in the world bone stock dash but I gave in whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.......

But seriously, I love my great sounding cd player and by god it's my truck. I dont give a rats a$$ what anyone else thinks of it. IMO if you want a bone stock truck dont cut, if you want a truck that you can enjoy your tunes in by all means do surgery on the bastard!!!!!! LOL

If the rocker panels or cab corners are rusted out, you cut out the bad stuff and put in new, right?
What's the difference with the dash?
If what you have is not the correct size to accomodate what you want, cut it.
If it's been cut, and you want it back like it was - fix it.
In the meantime, cut a hole and stick in your head unit of choice.
(putting on the flame suit now)

I have cut, but now I'm gonna improvise. My truck will not be bone stock, but I will have that option if I decide to go back further down the line.

But like the man says, It's your truck, do what ya want!

I've cut my non AC 71 and never regreted it one bit, but that truck was not stock nor was it planned to be stock.

Now that I have the '72 going, I would never cut the dash! Its about 85% stock all over and I think it would ruin the look if I installed a later model stereo in it. I'm going with the aftermarket models that fit our trucks and work like the new stuff.

I think it all depends on your intended use. If your going for stock or may go for stock at some point, DON'T cut a perfectly good dash. But if your going for custom and didnt really prefer the stock setups, cut away....

My 2 cents

Mine has been mildly trimmed, Nothing that couldn't easily be covered or fixed. I am planning on adding a syste, I just don't know what yet. Since I have done and plan a few other non stock mods...I domn't have any problems modifing my dash to fit a stereo.

O.k. I see it like this. Don't change your stearing wheel, don't put new wheels and tires on it, God for bid don't lower it and what ever you do don't paint it a different color!!!! Come on people, its a truck. Its not like we a talking about a Corvette or a Camaro. Its your truck, do what you wan't with it. Maybe its me but if your selling an old 3/4 ton truck with rusted out cab corners and no options, I don't think your big selling point will be....Hey, look at that dash, at least nobody cut it. I cut mine and did not think twice about it. I don't understand why anybody would shell out so much money to Custom Auto Sound for their stuff when you could spend the same for a really nice setup. Remember.....ITS JUST A TRUCK!!!!!!

They make some pretty nice units for stock locations. Granted its nothing like my Alpine but it will do what needs to be done.

If I recall, the middle of the line USA- or Kenwood units are 150.00 up to 300.00 then you have to buy the cd changer.
Just food for thought

If it were plastic instead of metal in the dash, I bet there would be no question. But since its something that not everyone can just "fix" it leads to a bit more concern.

24 hours and still running 60/40 against cutting the dash.

Remember, there are no right or wrong arguments outside of "It's your truck, do what you want".

I don't see this as a pi$$ing match between "old school" and wild customization either, so lets not drag it to that level. I incicated what I liked/disliked but never insinuated anybody's ideas to the contrary were wrong.

The issue is only curiousity and to see what others have done.

I really like the flip-down delete plate slammed67 came up with.

It would be interesting to me to see the demographics behind the poll. I'd wager the no cuts are mostly in the 35 and older category. The age where their Dad/Grandpa or they owned one when new.

Anyway, thanks for the interest!

I'll send payment address via PM. I'm 37

I think you're probably right about the demographic division, but I suspect the number is more like 45. OR... maybe it's "liberal" and "conservative" hmmm...
