Looking good I sure do miss Old Green as we called her. How did everything look when you tore her apart?

Re: Summer of 69
I moved about a year ago and bought a place with a 5 car garage. Problem is the 3 car detached garage has a major water problem lots of water on the concrete all spring, summer, fall. I have not worked on the project in the last year. I think that I will purchase some very large tarps and put them over the concrete to hopefully keep the moisture under them. I had a better functioning garage when I was using the portable garages. Son is # 1 in his class. He will be 17 this summer. He is very involved in sports and school. I don't know how enthusiastic he will be to work on the truck. I will probably just end up giving him back his cash and do the truck myself. He will probably have more ambition to be chilling at the river with his babe with his tournament ski boat this summer.

Re: Summer of 69
Time to get this thing finished. Problem is that I bought a house that has a detached 3 car garage that is built into a hill. I am assuming that the builder did not put plastic down before pouring the concrete floor so when I open a door on warm days I get water/condensation?? all over the floor. The portable garages I had at the other house were drier than this garage. I am not going to let this stop me any longer. The wet floor might help when it comes time to spray paint. I plan on getting the cab prepped and in primer. Maybe if it is bare metal I will cover in blanket and then tarps and leave it outside. IDK. Here are a couple of pics of what I have today.

Re: Summer of 69
I like this truck! Please tell me what was wrong with it or what needed attention. Obviously you can see that I am restoring it. I never even drove it except off the transport vehicle. I have a rebuilt motor for it. What was the toggle switch for under the dash? Did the wipers work? Obviously I don't want to put this back together with parts that should be replaced. I am glad I bought this truck! Please advise me on what I should not re-use!
Thank you! If you prefer PM me with the details. |

Re: Summer of 69
My entire 3 car garage is occupied with this truck. Cab still in one bay, bed in another, and frame in the last one. Some sandblasting took place last fall and then it got cold and it has just been sitting. I cannot have this project tying up my entire shop. I have been doing other projects outside.
Today I finally went out there and spent a few hours sandblasting. Yes I know all the hazards and after this project I don't think I will ever sandblast again or at least never again inside. The material I am using is very fine and I got it for free from a beach on the Connecticut River. The material looks like sand but is actually more silt. No warping going to happen with this material. I can almost remove a layer of paint at at time. I have every expectation to go out again tomorrow and spend a good long day at it. Last fall I purchased (2) industrial Two Stage compressors and a storage tank. I bought them used. They are Jenny compressors. I had intentions of selling one of them. As many of you know media blasting consumes a lot of air and since I already have two compressors and a dryer I figured I might as well use both of them. Much better sandblasting when there is an abundant air supply. There is not much body work necessary on the cab or bed. My intention as I type this update is to get the entire bed and cab sandblasted, weld up a few unnecessary holes. Knock out or pull a few tiny dents and get the bottoms of both the cab and bed finished. Then I will probably finish and paint the bed and cab and get it back on the frame. Now that I think of it I will probably paint the cab while mounted on the frame to eliminate the possibility of screwing it up trying to put it back on. I will try to take some pictures tomorrow and keep this thread updated. |
