Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build
No idea I replaced them with ngk's and never looked back. Im sure they broke one swapping out manifolds or something. Seats were out of the 2000 silverado I stole the motor from. Got the foam insulation finished tonight and got my carpet washed at the carwash, hopefully it will be dried out by tomorrow so I can reinstall it with the seats.
Picked up my 275/60 15's today new for $81 a piece

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build
Who would have known that the door seal from the 2000 would work on the ol girl, got the seats in for temporary run around purposes, got to get the tires put on so I do not have to load it on the trailer to take it to my friends to get the exhaust done.
Also can anyone decode my paint code, I assume its 506 dark olive but the paint code is 4564AB. Thanks in advance

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build
Thanks
No I had to make studs for the front, had to space the rear up about an inch, while im re-doing my crossmember im going to brace the floorboads in the rear so if i ever do get involved in a accident the seats wont rip out of the floor and send me thru the windshield.

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build
Got my tires mounted on Friday, took the truck out for a good run yesterday. It shifts out of second at about 90mph so I do think a set of gears is in my near future, should make it alot more fun to drive that way.
Exhaust and crossmember maybe this week sometime then its daily driver time.

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build
WARNING, the next few pictures are not for the faint of heart!!!!
Got my amps wired and wires ran for the stereo today, so now just waiting for my kick panels to come in. It rained tonight so I finally got to see where my water leak is..... its coming in around the top of the windshield rubber. Guess its about due since all the windows are the originals and the rubber has shrunk and lost its seal. Good news is the golf ball sized hail missed me by about 2 miles tonight. The better news is I almost got all my OK's from all responsible parties to get my shop started, looks like its going to be alot smaller than I want but its all I want to spend right now so a 30X40 is what it will be.

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build
Oh the humanity! You cut the dash! NOOOOOOOOOOO
Enjoy it. About 75% of the dashes are cut now and it's only metal...it can be patched if wanted down the road...

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build
As you can tell by the first pic it was fubared anyway. It was a non radio truck with a blockoff plate(which I still have) but my uncle put a radio in it at one time and someone ripped it out of the dash, literally, so it wasnt a virgin dash per say.

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build
I'm glad the hail missed you. It didn't miss us. Looked to be about 1" but wow, was there a lot of it. My 72 Cheyenne rode it out with nary a bump as far as I can tell.
Great story on your 70. Look forward to seeing it at A Small Town Weekend! |

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build
Good thing these older trucks are made of actual steel. Hope everything else survived as well as it did.

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build
It isnt in good enough shape to reuse or I would have no problem with parting with it.

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build
Awesome shop Jon, I have shop envy! Man those pans are hangin' a little low under there. I think my trans pan is 1" under the framerail but the oil pan on mine (NOT an LS) is slightly higher, That LS pan is pretty low! Might have to raise the engine/trans up some??

I looked at raising all of it, the motor is a non issue but the trans wont come up any further without fabbing a new trans tunnel. When I set it in there its actually back 1.5" from the original motor location and the trans is only a half inch from the floor as it is.

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build
It's been awhile since I've worked on the ol girl, the 5.3 was alright but it just wasn't what I wanted. So I've decided to swap the entire body off of it and throw it onto a 05 cummins 6 speed chassis. I was going to stuff the engine and trans in it but wkth plans to swap it to 4x4 I didn't think the half ton frame was going to be stout enough. We shall see how his all works out....

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build
Well I abandoned that swap idea, decided to just use the original frame, swap in some new axles and go back to the 355. While it's apart I'm stripping the frame, the bottom of the cab, and everything is getting a fresh coat of paint. The "satin" black has way more gloss to it than I wanted though.
