You guys have a unique usage of the phrases in your region.

Doghouse = engine cover in the interior of a van, or cab-over semi truck.
Front Clip = front end sheet metal to mean anything infront of the windshield regradless of vehicle type.
Camaro/Nova front frame portion = subframe.

That truck around here would probably have an asking price of 3-4 thousand.

Alex.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Guys,,,really? No one understands the term "doghouse" as a car reference??? The term doghouse originated because it's where the engine lives or resides inside. Hence the term came about.

I'm much like Bilfman, but I think I must have been around a little more I've done these restorations all my life, lived from the Midwest to now residing in the West. Most work is muscle cars and classics and most of those guys understood the term, much like Cars-in-Guitars makes reference to. Doghouse just refers to the outer sheetmetal. When we clip something it's generally referring to a bad collision where the actual frame is beyond straightening so we clip it off (hence the term front clip )

You guys up in Canada are just backwards anyway

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Oh yeah CarsinGuitars,,,,that truck looks like a typical rusty Indiana vehicle that will need just about everything replaced (if your intent is to restore it).

What I see....

Rockers and cab corners, that will generally get into some floor work, new bed sides, front inner fenders and probably front fenders when you dig into it. Who knows what else, you'll find more when you dig into it. I use an open ended ticket and charge by the hour on stuff like this, it gets worse before it gets better

No intent to restore it, just need a work truck, I hate living in the midwest.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

my advice bud,,,,,Leave Indiana and shop out here in AZ for a truck They are cheaper and solid as a rock. Dime a dozen out here. You could use it for your work truck and after a few years sell it and still double your money in Indiana...

I did that for 25 years while living in Ohio. I never bought anything in Ohio unless I planned to strip it for parts

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Yeah I want to, but being 17 it's not the easiest thing to do, I think I will most likely go ahead and buy this truck and slowly put money into it, save go down south and buy a nice truck.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

i loaded semis for year's...i have heard the term "doghouse" used frequently by the semi truck guy's.if you think about a conventional kenworth or peterbilt style front end, hood whatever you wanna call it,it is dog house shaped.doesn't apply to cabovers......and jeff,in my 27 years of wedded bliss i have visited the doghouse you refer too........about the truck.unless it's a screamin deal and not knowin your financial status.....i think i'd keep looking.....i see em on craigslist alot around here in better shape....just givin my opinion since you asked.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Yeah, I would also pass on that one. Parts truck only. Too ruff for a restoration. If you do buy it, I don't think you'll ever be happy with it.
Needs too much. These trucks are all over. If you want a 4X4, then look
for that.
Just sayin'.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Keep in mind that my intent is not to restore this truck, only a work truck to make some money to pay for my other truck. I do not want to restore the truck at all. It has a good motor and transmission that are worth more than the truck itself. But just a work truck that will used until it is junk then will sell or scrap it.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

I don't think this truck has any value beyond salvage value. I would find out what the scrapyards would offer and make that offer to the seller. Unless you desperately need something that is not rusted on this truck, I don't know what you would do with it. I brought a 73 LB from Michigan to Arizona 30 years ago and it was almost as bad as the one shown here. Living in AZ I am biased, but I still don't think it makes sense to put any money in a rusted out truck when you can get rust free trucks in the southwest and spend $700-$800 to transport it to your door.
In Michigan the part of a vehicle from the driver's door forward was called the front clip. Here in AZ from the front fenders forward is called a doghouse (probably because if you remove that part from the vehicle it looks like a doghouse from the firewall end of the assembled parts.)

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

most people call the front clip on cars a sub frame i think everyone ik calls the front a clip cause like dodge and chevy you can unbolt the front two frame bolts and the cab to fender bolts and take off the whole front end (clip) in one pice with the hood and fenders and core support all bolted to together

Exactly, I mentioned that earlier, and it's what I did for years when I lived in Ohio. Cheaper in the long run (actually you make money come sell time) to fly out here, grab a rust free truck, and drive it back (or just transport if you wish) It's worth twice back East what you'll pay out here for it.

I agree with this guy. Honestly, I wouldn't pay a dime for that truck unless I needed some hard to find interior part out of it. It's way too far gone to bother with when there are a million of these trucks out there that are relatively rust free for a few grand.
