Re: never seen one like it

Someone in Canada posted a pic of the truck they had just gotten, within the past 2 months....and it was a South American '67-72. He said he was going to sell the bed...don't know if it happened or not.

It's funny how this thread derailed into a mexican truck discussion.

Mike, That Mexican truck bed looks like it should be on a Ford. However, I have never seen one before, very interesting.
Bert,
Well crap, I thought we could all retire with that $10K! lol
I guess I'll buy my own Corona and keep looking for more trucks.
Certinly didnt want trying to change direction of the thread. I really thought I added something to the conversation. Forgive me as I am fairly new and didnt see the difference untill it was too late.

Oh, I wasn't dinging you Mike. I just find it funny how these things grow arms like an octopus. Kinda of like going after a lightbulb for your wife and end up changing the water pump on your truck with no thoughts about the lightbulb. $10 K and some Coronas would be good.

No issues and I know what you mean. I learn so much from this website. My wife says I'm addicted. I found those coronas tonight but the $10 K was nowhere to be found. Lol have a great night. I'm posting pics tonight.

Turns out the shoulder belt in the pic was not an original. There was only one anyway. The driver side was melted in the fire..

Re: never seen one like it

California 'black plate' truck. Got me thinking. In California back in the 60's and 70's, there were a number of truck body companies that would take a Fleetside like this, cut the box sides down, and install tool cabinets on either side. Sort of a poor man's utility body. I saw this done a lot, not only Chevy's and GMC's but Fords and Dodges as well. And, I believe there were flat beds too, as PanelDeland pointed out. A friend of mine had a '78 Dodge W-200 Power Wagon with a cut down box and cabinets on it. The truck was a fire department rescue unit.

The movie studios would modify pickups and turn them into camera cars. Saw a lot of body modifications on those.

Another odd thing I saw back then was a conversion done to Step Sides, where they would remove the rear fenders and replace them with cabinets on the sides. Looked very much like a utility body, but had the familiar Step Side tailgate.

WOW! Nothing says the 70s like Yosemite Sam "BACK OFF" mud flaps....there should be an "AMERICA! Love it or Leave it" bumper sticker to go with them! I'm guilty of using those on more than a few of my trucks "Back in the Day"
