I don't want to poo-poo on your cool engine build, but I don't understand the front-mount distributors for LS based engines. They are really expensive, why not just use an MSD6010 controller? Then you can use stock accessories AND have computer-controlled timing.

Re: my lowwww buck 83 build 5.3
i used the 6010 set up on my friends 69 camaro i did for him.the one drawback to that is the fact that your stranded if it goes out on the road. i plan on driving the hell outa this truck and i dont want to buy 2 of those just to carry around incase it craps out.i cant seem to find any one who has used them as a dd.just mainly a wekend warrior so im skeptical on its longevity.if you have ever used any msd products they have the ability to stop working at the most inconvienent time.i have however decided not to go carb at all i have changed my mind and will be using fuel injection of some kind.most likely the factory truck set up since i already have it .but you never know i could chang my mind again.if i can find some people who will attest to the msd with significant miles on the set up i may consider it.i llike alot about it ,just dont really trust it.
any ways tonite spent most of the night cleaning parts, ill post some pics of the internals tomorrow.looks pretty clean |

Re: my lowwww buck 83 build 5.3
bad ass build man. I did the opposite of what u did. I swapped in a 5.3 LS first then realized the suspension felt like sh##. Now i wanna drop it and do the suspension. cant beat the power, reliablity and fuel economy of fuel injection if set up correctly

Re: my lowwww buck 83 build 5.3
well not alot to show ,been busy helping my dad swap a 4 speed into his 32 ford.and finishing my model t hot rod.but i did get my blue ls 6 springs and finished porting one head.i have decided to go carb and th350 for now ,the manual will have to wait.any how heres some pics of the head ready for assembly.remember this isnt supposed to be the state of the art porting, but it should definetly wake the little 5.3 up with the cam im running.ill be using a ls2 timing chain, stock bottom end with new rings ,rods, main bearings, stock pushrods ,melling oil pump,ls7 lifters, stock rockers with upgraded trunions. i have my tci converter and tranny.need to finish the motor and do the rear end.i have a 9 inch housing the right width, gota get axles and a center section still.thinkin about 3.73.

Re: my lowwww buck 83 build 5.3
man i was busy this weekend.friday after work i went to dads and installed the t top seals and t tops in the 84 z28 were building ,what a ***** getting them to fit and all adjusted.saturday i cleaned my boat and started getting it ready to redo the stringers and deck.tried to get my hot rod started to find i had no oil pressure!so out comes the dist to check with my tool.spun it up with the drill and bam ,40 lbs! must have been a sticky guage, anyway took it for a ride.then came back and cleaned the th350 and replaced th pump seal ,out put seal and filter/pan gasket .then painted it up.today i spent the better part of 4 hours dissasembling ,porting and cleaning the other head.it came out great! i gotta wait till tomorrow for the seals to come in,then i can lap the valves and reasemble.

Re: my lowwww buck 83 build 5.3
these upgrade the factory roller bearings with a captive design incase the bearing fails it wont spit bearing guts through the engine.recommended when upping the lift and pressures of an aftermarket cam.i will be upgrading the lifters to brand new ls7 units as well.the low buck is starting to fade but ,aftermarket rockers are 400-600 .00 and morel lifters run 500.00 so really at 140.00 for the ls7 lifters and 140 .00 for the trunion kit im saving alot of coin, and not giving up reliability.
