Re: 71 C10 parting out

I'll hold off for now, was hoping it was maybe a 3.73 rear. Figured if I could do a 5 lug swap and get the ratio I wanted I'd pull the trigger.

I'll also bow out on the disc brake stuff to joel.e, since I'm sure he'd use them before me.

If nothing else happens, we might could work something out. I had been planning swapping out the 3.73 in my 67 6 lug rearend out to 3.08 or 3.42 for a little more highway gear when I put the v8 in, so I might could swap the carriers.

I've got a 3.08 now, and realized that I drive very little on the highway. I'd rather have the extra giddyup than highway manners.

Yea, it's the opposite for me, we are far out in the country so it is 55-60mph everywhere we go, and I'm on the interstate a lot. That and I am planning to keep the 3speed on the column with no overdrive, because that's how I learned when I was little, so the extra highway gear would be great. Especially since we have planned to drive Route 66 as a family when my 67 gets done, along with my father in law's 56 International pickup, and my brother in law's 68 Ford F-100. That 3.08 would come in handy for that drive.

Anyway, does your 3.08 happen to be a 6 lug narrow from a 67-69? If so we could definitely work out a trade for my 3.73 6 lug narrow from my 67 if you were interested. Then if you were interested in swapping to 5 lug, you would just have to get a pair of shafts and drums and be all set. I might would take a wider 70 6lug, but would prefer the narrower 67-69.

Re: 71 C10 parting out

My truck is a 69, but I have no idea if it's the original rear. I've assumed so, but who really knows what its been through in the last 40+ years.

I'd definitely be interested in a swap, as long as yours is in good running order. I am more worried about the gearing than lug pattern. I'm happy with my 6 lug vette style rallys.

Measure it from backing plate to backing plate, the one I'm after would be 55.5". The 70-72 axle is 57". (I want that slightly narrower axle to allow for a little deeper dish wheel). If it is the 55.5" it is the same as my 3.73 rear. My axle is in great shape, it came from an original 70k mi truck, no funny noises or issues when I parked it for a complete tear down of the truck.

Grabbed a quick measurement, and it looks like mine is an early rear.

There's a guy supposed to come look at it this weekend, if that falls through I'll put you in line.

I do, I haven't disassembled the front suspension yet, I've been keeping it together to roll the frame around, but in the next couple weeks I should have time to do it. How quick are you needing it? I'll have to measure and weigh it to see what it would cost to ship, but I'm gonna guess $60 total shipped.

Re: 71 C10 parting out

If you are going to dissasemble the frame, ill take the rear spring mounts/pads (that little plate above rear spring) if its in good shape:

I am in NC also so I could pick them up.

Your link doesn't work, it just goes to the general 67-72 forum. I think I know what pieces you are talking about, I will try to get those for you.

I've got several things going on this weekend, and don't think I'll have time to cut the rivets off to get them off this weekend.

Also adding a bench seat, and LWB 2 piece driveshafts to the first post.

I'll see what I can do, but I really think shipping will kill it on big items like that, I looked and I didn't have a box large enough for them, if I pay UPS to box them up it would really be $$.
