Thanks! I'm happy with it. Lots of firsts for me on this truck since I have never worked on anything this old before.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Got the radio in tonight. What a miserable contortionist act that was. Wouldn't have been bad without the AC tubing, but with it, very tight fit. Just have 2 small speakers in the stock location for now, waiting for kick panel enclosures for 6.5's. I'll do pics once I get the glove box and ashtray painted and installed.

Seat was much less cussing than I had expected. Fixing the springs was a lot of work and hard on the hands, but doing the covers really wasn't all that bad.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

OK, had a little time the last few nights and got the ashtray and the glove box door completed. Also put in the new steering wheel and swapped in the new dash bezel. Dash is essentially finished. I have to zip tie a few wires underneath, and I still have some wiring to figure out for the horn and reverse switches. Plus I have to do something about windshield washer as my pump is dead.

To any purists who may read this.......I am not doing a real restoration. The truck was not original or correct when I got it, and I am not attempting to take it back. I know the glove box door emblem does not belong on a 1970 and the bow tie should be blue. But, I like it and I think it gives the dash some "pop", and I needed the bow tie red to match the horn button.

Also went for a little ride to home depot, and took a few pics in the driveway.

My Tundra makes the Chevy look tiny. FWIW, the Chevy is not lowered. The front is stock height and the rear springs need to be replaced. I have 2" lowering springs on order for the rear and I am still debating what I want to do in the front.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

After failing emissions twice, once Friday night and once Saturday morning, I gave up on tuning for a while and worked on the drivers side floorboard and rocker. Put new floorboard supports underneath as well.

Before:

After:

Also got the new driver's side shoulder seat belt in, and got my windshield washers working. Next weekend I'll do the passenger side, which might be a little worse.

I don't know about fast. That half of the floor took me about 16 hours altogether. I'm an ok welder but I suck at fitting, so I measure 20 times and still have to cut 3 times.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Post your emission test results, if you have them available. Im a part time smog tester out here in Nevada. I just tested my 68 C10 with a straight 6 and one barrel carb and had it burning cleaner than my computer controled/fuel injected 95 Honda. But I used the testers 4 gas mode to adjust the carb and timing to get it there.

Thanks, John

I'm already filling out the forms to get the historic plates so I don't have to go through this crap anymore.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

A little rattle can action on the new rocker tonight:

Also installed new Prothane bushings on the front sway bar. Old ones were really sad.

Sure does. I wish I had known about it when I registered the truck. Mailed the application yesterday.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Made up a throttle linkage with heim joints tonight and installed new floor mounting studs for the gas pedal.

Also adjusted my rear bumper to get the gaps even across the tailgate.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Got the driver's side weatherstripping on.

Test fit the bench seat and realized my shifter will not work. So, I'm going to have to fabricate something.

Don't worry about being year correct. You need to do what you like. That's the great thing about these old trucks, we can make them exactly the way we want.

You really did a great job on the rust repair. Brings back some fond memories. I think I have a few hundred hours in my cab alone. Keep the pictures coming.

Thanks!

I'll have more this weekend when I do the passenger side. Tomorrow night will be shifter fabrication.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Modified my Hurst shift to fit with the bench seat. Had another shifter that came with the truck that had already been modified, so I cut it up and used it to reposition the good one I have. Offset forward 2-1/2" and up 2". Also bent the shifter to the right so the knob is away from my leg. I have a shifter boot that should cover up all of the ugly nicely and make it look good.

I'm going to clean up the PO hole in the floor when I'm cutting out the floor tomorrow.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Started cutting out rust and the passenger side is much worse than the driver's side. Front and rear door pillars need some work, and its more than I can just patch over like i did on the driver's side. Had to order some patch panels for it.

Also going to have to do the cab corner, most of it fell off as I was cutting other stuff. This rocker and cab corner is the only spot where I have found any bondo so far.

Still perfectly saveable, and when this is done there is no rust left on the truck. Just a bunch more work. I still have a lot of cutting to do tomorrow.

My rear springs showed up today too, so I may try to install them tomorrow too.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Cut some more metal out today, but didn't dare to go too far until I get the rest of the patch panels I need.

So I switched gears and started working on the rear suspension. Pulled the trac bar off and installed new Prothane bushings. Got one of the rear springs replaced. Ran out of time on the 2nd one, so to-be-continued on that.

Original springs were is pretty bad shape. New spring is a 2" lowering spring, stock spring is supposed to be the HD version according to the SPID.
