Re: WTB: Aux Fuel Tank Bezel

I have a NOS Accessory box for Auxiliary tank. I'll see if it has a part # on the float/guage or sheet. It wasn't complete, but the float /guage is about half the size as our trucks.

That would be great to see. Reminded me that I have a picture of the NL2 tank sender and box.

Re: WTB: Aux Fuel Tank Bezel

Any chance it's the same as that in a Blazer/'burb tank?

That is the correct one. The accessory kit I have is dated 5-18-70. It was a right side auxiliary tank (dealer installed) that shows the switching valve on the floor and I assume it had to be left and right and main. It shows a gas door on the right bedside and that the rh was installed symmetrically opposite (see lh tank/door assm installation).

When The 71-72 Aux Tank was engineered, I would think they had a right side to match. Anybody have anything in the 72 order guide with changes?

Re: WTB: Aux Fuel Tank Bezel

so, w314speed - what exactly is it you also have - Accessory Box?? What's in it? Is it for sale? Is it right side stuff only? So many truck problems, so little time!!!! At this point, I don't know what I don't know as to what I need to complete the dealer install. I have a valve (needed the bezel), 2 tanks and fill h/w, etc, but no means of reading fuel level in the aux tankS. Thx for posting!

Re: WTB: Aux Fuel Tank Bezel

I also have a new NL2 option sending unit and box, as shown in SS Tim's photo above. (Not for sale, but I'm happy to provide any measurements or information) It is not the same as any Suburban or Blazer unit I can find. The 5 bolt flange is nothing like the lock ring used on other tanks.
The brass float itself is the same as other units. Hope this helps out.

Do you have the 70 with r&l tanks with the filler doors on the side?

I am assuming I have no means of reading fuel level in the dual dealer aux tanks since only the factory aux setup had the dash switch for changing what you see on the gauge... Hmmm, there's another dilemma to solve... How to know what I have in the aux tanks for fuel level when there was no factory provision for reading the level in DUAL dealer-installed tanks that I am aware of. Anyone know? I'm sure there was some way I'm not aware of - I doubt so many folks would have opted for dealer aux tanks if there was no way to read the fuel level... Now I'm really curious.
The instruction sheet shows two tanks with a sending unit in each one. a toggle switch mounted on the dash above the cigarette lighter. The toggle switch controls the fuel guage and the floor valve controls the tanks. I have attached some pics of the eletrical positions.

Re: WTB: Aux Fuel Tank Bezel

The 1970 aux tank option (also a one year option) used a Blazer tank between the frame rails in the rear but had the toggle switch mounted to the dash as shown above. The 72 aux tank was located in a totally different spot, had a different dash mounted sender selection switch located in a different spot, and had a metal plate rather than a plastic bezel to indicate tank selection. I haven't seen many 1970 trucks with the factory aux tank.

Re: WTB: Aux Fuel Tank Bezel

Here is a pic from the aux tank acc booklet that shows the left and right tanks were in the same position as the 72 left side. This kit had two of the tank mounting bolts with the 3/8 drive internal nut as used on the 71-72 tanks. The booklet is dated 5-18-70 so it was around the time the 71 was coming out.

Re: WTB: Aux Fuel Tank Bezel

This is VERY helpful information. My truck is a 71 with non-factory (am assuming dealer installed) DUAL aux tanks. The fillers are wheelwell fill vice bedside fill - so it's possible that they are aftermarket. Haven't had a chance to yank em and see if they even have sending units.

I've never seen ANY of the above stuff listed for sale on the parts board. Am interested if any of it is floating around out there.

Wow, this is great info w314speed, thank you.

Here's a pic that shows the GM installed dash mounted toggle switch in a '70 - this truck had the one-year-only factory rear aux tank install

Re: WTB: Aux Fuel Tank Bezel

learn something new every day... So, what would have been the means of displaying DEALER installed DUAL aux tanks fuel quantity on the fuel gauge in 1971 or 72? Or was there a standard way - seems there would have to be. Seems what w314speed posted in post #33 would be the way a dealer install would have been installed - and for the DUAL aux config in a 71 (if dtd May 70...)?? I've never ever seen one of those in a 71 or 72. Anyone know? Thanks for posting all the pics, this helps me a lot. Bottom line, as long as I've got senders, I can come up with a means of displaying it on the gauge, but would love to do it the standardized way (if there is such a thing...) that the dealer would have installed the toggle. Post #33 is the closest I've ever come to seeing what I'm looking for - and since it is for a dual aux config, doesn't appear to be the rear single aux tanl (1970) arrangement(?) - but rather a 71 or 2.

Re: WTB: Aux Fuel Tank Bezel

For what's worth, I've never seen a dealer installed aux tank setup with the dash mounted switch/harness for the aux tank sending units depicted above. What w314speed posted is pretty cool...

Man, this is interesting information. Still wonder if the 72 factory installed tank had a odd ball fuel float? Or does some other float work.?

Re: WTB: Aux Fuel Tank Bezel

Another what? bezel nameplate for the switch or floats, etc? Pete hooked me up with a left/right/main bezel, but I'm still looking for the float/fuel gauge switch stuff, is there is such a thing for 71 dealer installed aux'es. Still would love to see an actual pic of a 71 dual dealer aux tank fuel gauge switching setup that was installed by the dealer. w314speeds diagrams are priceless - if all else fails, I'll figure out a way to build my own, but still looking for some dealer-installed stuff at this point. I'd be willing to bet someone else has a left/rigth/main bezel for you if that's what you're looking for Brewski.

Per our PM conversation, I am enclosing a pics of the switch. The wire is standard blue wire with connectors attached, same as you an I would do in the garage. If interested, $30 shipped. Thanks, Dan

Re: WTB: Aux Fuel Tank Bezel

So, just to confirm - this is a 3-way switch (and it's missing 1 of the 4 connector screws - I'd assume one has to go to the gauge itself and the other three to the main/Laux/Raux sending units, yes?). Sure would like to confirm if this has ever been seen on a 71/72 dual aux dealer install and if it matched the location in the diagrams above (above the lighter) (I do understnad the photo, not the diagram, is of a 70-only switch for a single rear aux tank, correct?). Thanks for posting it, I'm interested.

Jocko - Not sure this will help but here's a link to the '72-only aux tank wiring harness: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=476843

Maybe this can be adapted for use w dual aux tanks?

Pete

Re: WTB: Aux Fuel Tank Bezel

Thx Pete - that diagram helps for a single, but not sure the factory single aux switch would work since it wouldn't have enough connections to monitor the dual aux's individually(??) I'm not sure. Thanks for the link, that helps me.
