Re: Total newb, found a chopped and channel forgotten project.
You'll want '71-'72 or '73-'87 front suspension. 1/2 ton. There are lots of posts and stickies on here about 'conversion' to disc brake and/or 5 lug front suspension so search for that. Either will work but you need to pay attention to the era components you have as the tie rod ends, ball joints, spindles, rotors, brake lines, etc. interface geometry changed slightly. All things equal I'd go with '73-'87. Advantage being the UCA and LCA have rubber bushings for a smoother ride and the components are cheaper.

I'm not to lazy to search. I'm still figuring my way around this site. All I use is my iPhone so that may make it more difficult.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...55#post4416555 I like using the grey box with the white bar across the top at the top of the page for my searches. Just click the '67-72chevytrucks.com' option and it will search the entire site instantly. I'm currently putting a '71 front crossmember under my '68. The brake lines is the only 'figure it out when I get there' kinda thing I havent worked out yet. The great majority of the discussions here are about originality - including mine. However, your truck (shell) reminds me of the "World of Wheels" traveling car show from 1978. I guess thats why Im interested.

Re: Total newb, found a chopped and channel forgotten project.
Have you given any thought to buying a parts truck? It would probably save you money in the long run.

That's what I've been searching for. A whole truck. Get what I need and scrap rest.

Re: Total newb, found a chopped and channel forgotten project.
If you keep looking you will likely find a decent donor. I just found an 84 that is running and has the brakes and front end parts I'm after for $700. Haven't seen it yet but it might be the new lawn ornament shortly...

What a shame that looks to have been a pretty solid truck.

Re: Total newb, found a chopped and channel forgotten project.
So you have any clue as of where the owner is or where it might be now? I bought the truck when I was 16...I'm now 32 I chopped it 5 inches and sectioned it 2 inches...I chopped it when I went to Wyotech as a class project.

Re: Total newb, found a chopped and channel forgotten project.
^^^ THANK YOU VERY MUCH ! We have a pretty good assumption of why it was never finished , It's not only technically hard it's very expensive and they never bring the money it cost to build them in the first place .

It takes a lot of dedication to finish out a truck like that. I have chopped a '34 Ford 2 door sedan (3 1/2") and a '27 Ford Model "T" 2 door sedan (12") so I know how much work it is.... LockDoc

Re: Total newb, found a chopped and channel forgotten project.
He was registered at the Volksrod forum. Doesn't look like he's been active there in a good while either, but I sent him a PM thru that site with a link to this thread, just in case he pops in there on occasion.

Re: Total newb, found a chopped and channel forgotten project.
I've went a little smaller scale on my builds. A 1911 Indian replica I've fabbed 98% of the frame from scratch and old pics. A 1973 Honda CB360 $150 yard sale find. I've stretched and did some mild mods to I'll try and post a pic or two.
