Thanks everyone for the support. I am starting to slow down. I did get my tailgate straps made. Will try to get some pic in a couple days.

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC

I had a setback. Had my gallbladder removed a couple weeks ago. It really took the fire out of me. I did get most of the motor back together yesterday and today.
I also got the inner fenders and under the hood painted. Iwill try to get some more pic.
Thanks ChuckDriver

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC

Made the tailgate straps using 1/8x5/8 alum straps. Welded a 1/4 steel plate to the bed and the tailgate to attach straps. Then used carriage bolts with the square sholder ground off. Cut a slot in the bolt for a screwdriver. Ground the head of the bolt down a little to clear.
Got the motor back together. Later on after I get it all back together and running, I would like to put a 2 four carbs on the motor and maybe change the cam.
If it will quit raining I will get some more painting done.

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC

Also I made a shaft to prime the motor with oil. That is what is sticking out where the dist goes.

Nice work.
Any chance you could show some detail on how you have routed the gas tank filler pipe?

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC

Nev I don't have the gas filler pipe hooked up yet. I plan on having the guys at the muffler shop bend me a pipe that will work for the filler pipe.
I will post some pic when I get it done , but that is going to be a while.
That is John Deer yellow paint on the motor.

No worries.
I have bought one of these for mine
http://www.haganauto.com/product_p/45sf.htm

I was thinking of using some stainless steel exhaust pipe with some rubber fuel hose at each end as joiners between the filler and the tank

Thanks guys This is the third motor that I've painted yellow. Other than looking like a bumble bee I like the yellow. The black is actually a real dark hammered brown.
The air cleaner came off the donor car , Camaro .
