Re: differential question

I got an Auburn out of an 89 Suburban for $80.00 in like new condition..Functions well, but they are not rebuildable. I think it will probably last forever in a cruiser. I got lucky at the junkyard, someone had removed the cover but was not able to get the carrier out...Easy Pickens..

how would i be able to find out if its a posi?

The safest way is to take the cover off and have a look.

Re: differential question

Being a 89, yes probably, just keep in mind that this is not the good one, but for free I guess you can't go wrong. Just take the cover off and post a picture as if someone has added an aftermarket posi it could look totally different.

That is very possible that it has 3:73 gears in it, but unless you know the complete history of that vehicle you have no idea what is actually in that pot. My rear end was a single track with 2:73 gears, now it is an eaton posi with 4:10 gears. What I'm saying is we could guess all day long but until you take that cover off nobody will know for sure. Chances are you are going to change the oil anyways if you use the whole rear end.
