Re: Custom Camper question
1972 CC owned by Ozark Tim. Another Flint truck that looks like it may have "long" emblems:

Re: Custom Camper question
Example of a possible dealer add-on? Here's a 1970 BB CC GMC with 72 door emblems. The front clip was gone (http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...php?t=575900):

Re: Custom Camper question
My K/20 came from CO. I guess it could be a Flint truck. I think the SPID pictures are on a broken computer I still hope to retrieve pictures from. I sure can't recall where it was built. I didn't remember the emblems were in a forward position, either. I have a set of these emblems w/instructions Tim showed. Not too sure many people took trucks back to the dealer to have Custom Camper emblems added. When and why would this happen?
This is the Cheyenne Super I had from Freemont. You can just barely see the holes and they're rearward.

Re: Custom Camper question
wow! great info here...my C30 C&C was built at Flint Assembly Plant (which is still there and operating) but isn't a Z81, not yet anyway...
in fact, i drove the old girl right past her birthplace when i brought it home. eventually i plan on driving back for a few pics. it looks like an old truck plant with 6 or so tall vent stacks. thanks again for the great info. it will sure help me someday this summer.

Re: Custom Camper question
Thanks for posting that pic! It's great to see where my K20 was built. Looking forward to a pic of your truck in front of the plant.
Any other Flint built 1972 Custom Campers with/without "long" emblems out there?

It would be a very real scenario for a sales manager needing the red truck to be a "Custom Camper" to close a sale. You do it now to keep from losing a sale vs waiting for a truck to come in. Retail customers are flighty and sometimes the smallest of things can kill a sale. In the case of the emblems it really would not even be a foul if the truck has the equipment. But some people have to have a name and someone wanting to put a camper on that costs as much as the truck might very well insist on the badges for their trendy camper rig.

Re: Custom Camper question
Thanks Tim! Will likely install mine closer to door edge as depicted in the manual and your recent pic. However, as my K20 was Flint built (and I'm so uptight) I'd rather mount these in the "long" Flint position. Without a good reference for one of the "long" hole locations I'd be guessing though and that's not good.

Re: Custom Camper question
FWIW - I just compared a set of emblems with a stripped 72 door and did not find a hole that looked like it would have been used as a reference on these Flint trucks. Puzzling...

Re: Custom Camper question
Here's yet another (http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=582653) ....I'm convinced that CC emblems placed on trucks built at the Flint plant had a unique location.

Re: Custom Camper question
Not unknown, just blew through my 72 Flint SPIDS and it seems like it was the GMCs that zeroed out the wheelbase. Chevys I have all have it listed. The model number also provides wheelbase information.

Re: Custom Camper question
FWIW - I added the Custom Camper emblems to my Flint built K20 in the Flint specific location...any more Flint Custom Campers?

Re: Custom Camper question
In '69 Chevy offered a Custom Camper/10 as well.[/QUOTE]
Is this correct? I'm coming from the 60-66 area and was not aware that GM ever made a 1/2 Custom Camper. I know Ford did for a few years in the mid-60s but you rarely see them. Anyone have more info on this?

As camper carriers C/10s are a very low capacity. Basically just a shell running 200-300lb is the recommendation in the RV guide.

Re: Custom Camper question
I never knew that. Are you sure? I have only known of these door scripts to be on trucks once trim level fender badges were used in '69. With 67/68s using centered door badges to denote Custom or CST, I can't see these scripts being crammed in there, too.

Re: Custom Camper question
Yes. I have documentation also. There are plenty of examples of '68 GMC custom campers with the door script emblems, I have chosen one of the least altered originals out there.http://www.americanmuscle4u.com/vehicle.php?vid=358913

Re: Custom Camper question
Yes the 10's existed during the '67-'69 era, but soon disappeared for the same reasons the Ford 100's disappeared, much too low of a weight capacity for campers. The one thing to remember was the '65-'66 Chevy Custom campers included many comfort, convenience and appearance items included standard in the package, after '66, the custom camper was basically a heavy duty suspension package. Believe it or not, large mirrors were not even part of the package in '67, while they were included in '66. Chevy wanted you to order up a vehicle from a suggested options list in the later years.

Re: Custom Camper question
OOPs! I completely missed the GMC part somehow. I see it's obvious now. They also used the Custom script alone in the same area for a Custom or Super Custom. From my reply it's obvious I was thinking Chevy.
I have GMC fender badges that say 3500 Custom Camper. has anyone seen a 2500 or 3500 fender badge like that? I owned a '69 Custom Camper/10 a good while ago. It was a K/10 CST.
