Re: Will not drive straight

So the truck just killed the front 205 s both wore out the outside of the tires out over night, I just put new 235/ 75 /15 on all 4 sides and I am back to not being able to hold the truck in a straight line without it violently swaying from side to side, any amount of turning the wheel is to much.

Parts replace inner/outer tie rods, upper/lower ball joints, upper/ lower control arm shafts, shocks, pitman, idler arm, steering box,rag joint, adjustment sleeves, and the pump is an original 67-72 power steering pump.

After that I had it alined (driver side is left colum)
Camber .1 .7
Caster. 1.5. 1.2
Toe .20. .21
Front
Cross camber -0.6
Cross caster .3
The tires I have on are 205/65?/15 (I needed tires and they where free)the tires where balanced right before front end work.
All I want is to have less power assit (less twitchy on the highway)

Plead with the front end guy to work with you: (1)try to align it to as near 1987 specs as it will reach. The added pos. caster should help return wheel to center. [If you get really serious, read about how to gain additional pos caster by drilling an extra hole and moving a control arm along the frame, which is simple enough: just takes a bit of time.] Also, improper toe-in will work you to death as it wanders at hwy speeds; so (2)I'd say try to get the toe set simply at 1/8 inch in. Then test drive it.

If it still wanders, you might need a quicker-turn ps box. These are about 3 & 1/4 turns, lock to lock; so they are easy to check at a salvage yard. And one might come on about any of the years or models whose boxes fit our trucks, so check them all--including motor homes and 3/4 and full 1 tons(and, yes, some of the 1/2-ton and 3/4-ton Dodge pkps that also use our boxes!!). If yours is more like 4-plus turns lock-to-lock, I'd try to find the lesser-turn one, which by laws of mechanical advantage, would make the steer wheel harder to turn and give a more natural feel at higher speed driving. I, too, hate what I call that too-easy-to-turn the steering wheel syndrome.
Hope this helps.
